1. Kobe Bryant - Beating the Hornets just put him there. But losing games will just hurt his chances.

2. Chris Paul - Losing to the Lakers hurt him, team is not far behind Lakers. But at this point like Kobe. losing games only hurts you.

now that the lakers might get the best record in the west, the people who said they'll vote for whoever gets the best record will be like "oh well, the best record doesnt really matter"
Dwight Howard on his FT struggles:

"I just think everybody needs to stop talking about it," Howard said. "There's more to life than free throws."

Seriously, wasn't Jon Barry saying whoever has the best record in the West was his MVP. Now he changes it up?

Anyone know what Chris Paul's shooting % was this week?

Paul has to win at Dallas to have a chance..

Though even if they end up with a tie record, similar stats, tied head to head...Kobe has the edge being the veteran and Paul being young.

Why do you say that? I have no problem saying Kobe is my MVP right now.

no man in no way did i mean you, i dont call people out, im talking in general that's the feeling i get from people who don't want kobe to win (more so than wanting paul to win). It has nothing to do with you, I respect all posters and their opinions.

lol wtf happened to "the best record in the west gets it", people are hilarious

I could never say that about KG. Even though he is a great player. In some way even in his prime he is Joakim Noah with a jump shot and a little better post game. Outside of that they have the exact same skill set.

it goes both ways..those who said best record in the west takes it, started talking about injuries that the Lakers had.

and BTW i wasnt one of those, its laughable to make the MVP decided on standings more so than how the players played individually. Especially when the whole seeding might be decided on tiebreakers.

Are we changing the criteria now?

Is Kobe only going to win it because he's the veteran? (re: CB4MiamiHeat)

I thought just 2 weeks ago people were looking forward to the NOH-LAL matchup to determine the winner.

I'm kind of confused at what's going on now.

NOH had a 2-1 lead on the Lakers..most people that hyped up that game as the deciding game were Laker fans. It was 1 game.

My criteria was never based on wins alone..if that was the case KG would be running away with it in my eyes, being 25-5 vs. the West and 7 games ahead of the 2nd best team.

Right now Kobe and Paul have the same records...same stats...same head to head record...i just dont see how anyone can see that one of them created a gap from the other.

Most people who were hyping up that game actually weren't Lakers fans. Many in the pro-CP camp were pretty confident that NOH would take out LAL, and thus be another reason to give it to CP.

Oops.

You really don't see any separation between Kobe and Paul? How about
1. Carrying a team through own/team injuries
2. Playing much better overall defense
3. Eclipsing CP's adjusted +/- by a wide margin

Before, the argument was that the injury situation only made up the 1.5 game gap. Now that the gap is non-existent, shouldn't the injury situation boost Kobe up a little?

Unless you take an extreme view like Grizz' about individual defense not being important, wouldn't that boost Kobe up a little?

And if you put stock into +/- numbers, which tends to be a better composite number of 'contribution' (vs. the offensive-tilted 'production' stats), wouldn't that boost Kobe up a little?

Believe me, Chris Paul will get the MVP award. The league theory is absurd. Kobe should get awarded last year - wow scored 81 points a game and changed the history and the league ignored. If you scored 81 points and you still not able to get the award, how the hell you think Kobe will get the award this years? Same as Rick Adelman - winning 22 games in a row and kept rolling after the best player went down. You know what, he's not going to get the COY. Simply look at the paper, Rockets' roster is nowhere as good as NO. No disrespect to BS, he did a great job in NO. The same here happen to Jerry Sloan - as one of the winningest coach never get awarded. Of course, this kind of award means nothing to Jerry. As a fan, I really feel for the league lack of transparency.
