Game Thread: Dallas Mavericks @ Seattle Supersonics

Post#1 » by Det the Threat » Sun Apr 13, 2008 4:11 pm

It's here, the last home game of the 2007/2008 nba season for the Seattle Supersonics, who had a campaign to forget about. Still, there were some good points, mainly by our rookie duo of Kevin Durant and Jeff Green and those two will try to lead the young Sonics to a surprising win against Dirk Nowitzki and his playoff-bound Dallas Mavericks.

When and Where?

Sunday, April 13th, 6:00 p. m. PT, Key Arena, Seattle, Washington

This game will be broadcasted by FSN NW in HD

Questions:
Can we keep Dampier off the boards?
Will Watson be able to somehow limit Kidd?
What will our rookies be able give us?

This could be our second to last time we have a game thread. This is the last televised game, so it's almost feels like the last game of the season. Det, you are awesome! Thanks for all the hard work and energy you put into creating our game threads.

I'm actually going to the game tonight. For those of you in the area--even if you can't make it to the game, there is a SOS meeting at Ozzies from 5-6 pm. I plan on attending, I'll be wearing my KD jersey.

I hope others can take the time out to make it. I was planning on making a sign to take to the game, but couldn't come up anything great to put on it.

My dad said to put "Nice emails CLAY!" But I don't know...what should I do guys? Any ideas?

I still think the City makes the Sonics play out their lease.

So I'm looking forward to the offseason.

A loss tonight (not that I want one) would shore up the second worst record in the league and would guarantee the Sonics no worse than the 5th pick.

Ala Boston Celtics last year. I'd be surprised if three teams leap frogged the Sonics. I wonder what the odds are of that happening two years in a row?

BTW how bad is Matt Pinto? I really cant stand him. I was thinking that this is something we never talk about, but how about Clays decision to put the Sonics on 770? I don't see how anyone could argue that that was a good move for the Sonics. Regardless of your political opinion and weather you like some of their programing or not 770 should not be the voice of the Sonics. 770 in some areas doesn't even get reception. Just another move to alienate the people of Seattle.

i am in wenatchee, so i dont ever listen to the game on radio.

i remember when you could listen to the game on radio or watch on tv and you would hear kc. he could paint a picture on radio so that you felt like you where watching the game on tv. and when you where watching on tv, it never felt like he was over doing it. the man has a gift.

I went. Took my son. Didn't want to go at first. Didn't want a nickle of mine going to Bennett. But in the end my son wanted to go. So we went. Fantastic game. GP was there. He got a prolonged standing ovation. As much for how he represents the team's history as for his terrific career. The guys played hard. Team ball for the most part. KD nailed the game winner. J Green had the big rebound & full court pass to KD that sealed it. As satisfying a game as I can remember.

They're going to be a much improved team next season. If they manage to get D Rose, make smart draft picks, J Petro continues to develop & R Swift gets his mobility back... this team wins half its games next season. Seriously.

Does anyone have any clips of tonights game? It would be nice to get some posted on youtube and then on the general board to keep it going. So peoplr with no clue what they're talking about can see how much support there is in Seattle.

I went to the game tonight..tried to take some video but my camera is so crappy, and I was in the nose bleeds they didn't really come out too well. I'll post them when I can, but don't be surprised when they are bad.

The game was great and an expereince I'll never forget. wether it's the annoying people that sat behind me and my dad or their kid actually jumping on his back. The girls phone number I pulled(yay me!) or the actual game itself. This was without a doubt the best Sonix game I've been to and hopefully not the last.

This team...well...some players on this team have a bright furture and I want to watch them develop and grow. Durant should be nickamed some sort of "assasin" Assassin D, or D-Hitman...something cold blooded.

I went too. It was amazing that GP came. It brought tears to my eyes seeing him come out to support us and the team.

Before the game I was interviewed by KIRO radio...they asked me a few questions like how long of a fan I have been..well when I was driving home from the game they aired my answer to the question "will you support a new team if Seattle gets one?" I flat out told him no...why should I continue to support a league that doesn't care about me as a fan right now and that Stern doesn't care about our opinions.

It was cool!

What an amazing night. Sad but amazing.

Got to go to bed..will post more tomorrow.

One last thing I forgot to add:
Near the end of the game, when Dallas fouled us and there was a timeout, KD was awesome...we were chanting Save Our Sonics and he stood there right at mid-court, waving his arms to tell us to keep it up.

We chanted SOS for at least a full minute..not sure if it was on tv because it was during a timeout.

Damn I have to find a video of Durant waving for the crowd... I got choked up just reading that.

It seems like he really does want to stay here

Bucks fan here. Watched the end of your game last night and felt bad for all of you. Being a fan of a small market team with a arena issue coming, I hate to see this happen to a good basketball town. Stern just seems to want a team in OK and will not listen to anything thrown at him for the team staying in Seattle.

The save our sonics chants at the end of the game was awesome. I hope something is worked out for the fans of Seattle. We had a memorable playoff series back in 1980 that at the time drew the most fans in NBA history for game 5 in the Kingdome. Williams, Sikma, Brown, Johnson and many more against Lanier, Moncrief, Marques, and Winters. Fun times people and I hope you get many more.

GREAT article from last night's game. Nick's comments were awesome.

But nobody's convinced Sonics forward Nick Collison this was the end, either.

"I'm still optimistic something will happen to keep us here," Collison said an hour before the game.

Collison just bought a house up the hill from KeyArena. The former star at Kansas is married and wants the family he is just starting to grow up in Seattle.

"It will be a sad, sad day if that happens," Collison said of moving to Oklahoma. "It would be a tough thing for a city that has been so good to the NBA.

"There's not a lot of positive things we can say as players about this situation. But I'm still optimistic."
