Looking back, Wade said, he needed to be more of a leader.
"You're trying to do it all. I was trying to prove to myself that I could do it," he said. "Maybe I didn't give my team enough confidence. ...
"For the first time ever, I found myself letting my head get down. I've never had that happen before."
The day after seeing O'Neal's comments, Wade called O'Neal, tactfully telling him that he disapproved.
"I was saddened by it," said Wade, who added that he still speaks frequently with O'Neal. "I just told him, 'Big Fella, what are you doing? There's no need for that. There's a lot of people back in Miami that still have a lot of love for you.'
