Will a Kobe's Lakers vs LeBron's Cavs Finals ever happen?

Post#1 » by King Bryant » Mon Apr 14, 2008 7:49 pm

It sounds fun but I have a feeling LBJ may not make it back to the Finals as a Cav.

Thoughts?

Imagine the Kobe vs Lebron threads that would create on realgm. About 20 pages of them.

No Cavs will not make the Finals!

Lebron and his crappy supporting cast are locked salary wise for a couple years

Lebron will leave and try to succeed with a different team!

It depends. If Lebron leaves Cleveland and goes to a team with competent management it's possible...

If a dumb team like the Grizzlies give an all-star to the Cavs for garbage (Ben Wallace, expirings and something else), then maybe there is a chance.

4% chance the Cavs meet the Lakers this year in the Finals. I would've given it more, but Cleveland's screwed if Sasha doesn't start playing like he did in last year's playoffs, Boobie doesn't get back to 100%, and Wally continues to fail at shooting wide open jumpers.

All those aforementioned players could be playing the best basketball of their career and I still wouldn't give Cleveland one percent of a chance to come out of the east. I'll be surprised if they get past the Wizards.

Depends if Kobe can finally lead a team out of the first round, as the number 1 option. Maybe if he stops under performing in the playoffs too.

The Cavs split their season series with the Celtics, and have played the Pistons even the last two years. Not too far fetched.

No, he has a noticeable drop in production in the playoffs from what he does in the regular season. He is hit or miss, each year in the playoffs. Or are you saying dropping 50 in a game, in the playoffs< automatically means you can never take heat for overall being less productive in the most important time of the year?

I don't see the Cavs making it to the Finals again until 2011. Before that season, Lebron, Big Z, and Ben's contracts all come off the books. I would expect them to resign Lebron to a larger contract obviously, and Big Z and Ben Wallace to retire or just resign for the minimum. They will have alot of cap space to go after another superstar, for example maybe Chris Bosh who will also be a free agent that season. If that doesn't happen, he could always go to another team and I highly doubt it would be to a non-contending team.

As far as the Lakers go, Kobe will only be 32, Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom will be 30 so they might still be solid, and Andrew Bynum could possibly be an all-star and one of the best centers in the league.

A Lebron-Kobe Finals matchup is very possible in the future.

Not LeBron's Cavs. Probably his Knicks or Nets though.
