what did those picks end up being? if nothing, then everyone lost. joe plays for a mediocre team that shouldn't be in the playoffs and atlanta is paying a #2, #1 money. Phoenix does get the versitlity that joe provided for them and Diaw sucks now. If Diaw didn't drop off, I would give it to the Suns easily, but im going for secret option four. everyone lost!

Joe Johnson the 2-time all-star vs Boris Diaw and some lottery pick
I like how the Hawks came out in this one.
Suns thought they were going to get a Horford/Bradan Wright/Mike Conley type player in last year's draft and a Mayo/Rose/Gordon/Beasley in this one.
Thank goodness that top 3 protected pick worked out for us.

The Hawks weren't going to get anyone better than JJ. Sure, if they tanked 05-06 they could've had LMA. But then they suck even more, and the 06 free agent class didn't have anyone worthwhile in it. Then what? They tank 06-07. Everyone who tanked in 06-07 ended up picking behind the Hawks, who got probably the 3rd best player in the class with their pick.
Phoenix obviously lost. I think they'd trade the horrible contracts of Diaw and Banks for JJ. Not to mention that QRich contract. I still don't know how that franchise ruined such a golden opportunity to dominate the NBA. So many horrible trades and signings.

+1 They should of had a couple of rings by now if they just did nothing and made no moves. It's pretty pathetic if you think about it.

The ironic thing? The Suns traded a guy they didn't want to pay for a guy they did overpay. Now they're trying to dump Diaw's salary. They sure wouldn't trade to dump Joe Johnson were he still there. They just wouldn't have had the money to sign Marcus Banks, and they couldn't have signed Raja Bell. But still, would you take Joe Johnson over Bell, Banks, Diaw and a mid 1st rounder in 2008? Phoenix did get that 21st overall in 2006 as well, but they just traded it away like they do with all 1st rounders, so it doesn't matter.

JJ was gonna leave phx anyway, he didnt like being 4th fiddle, wanted to the the MAN.
suns got boris and could have gotten a good lottery pick if not for some fortuitous luck for the hawks. both teams came out fine.
obviously, suns with JJ would have been better but he wanted to leave. why is everyone forgetting that?

JJ wasn't going anywhere if Phoenix wanted to keep him. He was a RFA. If he wanted a $12M paycheck and a guaranteed $70M instead of a $4M paycheck with $4M guaranteed, he had no choice but to play ball with the Suns.

Phoenix had no intention of matching.
Therefore, the Suns still win this handly.
Something for nothing.
What the Suns stupidly wound up doing with the picks, their cap space, and Diaw's contract should have no bearing on who won the trade. Phoenix won it, and that will never change.

This is the same team that's been pawning off 1st round picks?

It's well known here in Phoenix that Sarver did eventually offer to match but JJ said not to.
Both teams won. Without Boris, Phoenix's 05/06 season would have been a disaster. It sucks what they did with the draft picks, but in terms of the initial trade, both teams came out all right.
