LAKESHOW wrote:we should look at it this way. before gasol, no lamar appreciation threads. after gasol, lamar appreciation threads. see the connection.

pau gasol should be the one appreciated. it took a GIGANTIC maneuver by this organization to bring in pau, for lamar to actually receive the recognition.

lets go ahead, and place lamar back in the 2nd position as an option on this team. guess what? these appreciation threads will go away.

well guess what..pau is here..

Buy low, sell high.

We might actually get something for Lamar now.

He still can't make a lay-up to save his life. And he might not be the fit at small forward once Bynum is back.

Make a move.

Well, now that Lamar is giving us all we would need in him, what would be the point of "Selling high", if there's pretty much nothing else we would want in return?

lamar is shooting over 52% for the year and 62% in feb, 55% in march, and 60% in april. if he can't even make a layup to save his life, and we all know he can't shoot a jumper, how's he shooting such a high percentage?

hint: he shoots 62% when taking close shots (non-dunks), better than kobe, gasol, or bynum

Yes but we were also a 500 team without Pau. It's no coincidence that Lamar has been playing well once we got Pau. Pau is doing to Lamar what Shaq is doing for Amare. Whenever you have a Center that draws that much attention it normally frees up the PF. This is what we're seeing here. Lamar wasn't doing this when he was playing alongside Kwame. Enter Pau and now Lamar seems like a "new man."

"lamar wasn't doing this when he was playing alongside kwame", is that suppose to be a knock on lamar? where was kobe leading the lakers when he had luke/smush/kwame starting? no where. playing better when u have better teammates shouldn't be knock.

lamar is playing with a frontcourt mate that compliments his talents and protects his weaknesses. lamar is all of a sudden doing a great job of cutting the basket at the perfect time. is that because pau taught him how to do it? no, its not lamar's fault that he played next to a kwame that didn't spread the floor for him or finish when he got the sweet pass. lamar has had some great passes to gasol, problem is he always made those passes. only before they weren't finished by kwame and seen as a sign of inability to step up by lamar.

Yes that was a knock on lamar. While lamar was putting up 13 and 9 one night then 8 and 8 the next night. Kobe was doing everything short of god like to keep his team competitive. Now with Pau at Center drawing all the attention inside. Lamar has more room and freedom to operate. Same way how Amare is going crazy now that they got Shaq. Pf's always benefit when you add a legit center that draws a lot of attention. There's no secret to Lamar's success right now. It's not like he finally decided to play. The game just started to open up and there's less pressure on him now that the lakers got Pau.

which is the point of this appreciation thread! he's now able to play his game since he has players that allow him to play to his strengths. he's able to showcase his talents that we can now appreciate.

After watching the games, would you really trust Lamar close to the basket over Kobe, Gasol, and Bynum?

We can debate how to interpret the stats, but it would never end.

I like Lamar, and I wish him success, but I'm just not comfortable with him in end game scenarios. He can get to the basket, no problem, but he just doesn't seem to finish. I also think he makes mental gaffes. He can produce stats for sure, but I don't think they translate. I pray that he proves me wrong this year, but I have to be honest that I don't expect it.

Having said that, the buzz about Odom is high. We don't know if he fits at the 3 spot going forward. Looks like this offseason is shaping up to be a busy one. Let's see what we can get with him/his contract.
