Howard Schultz to sue to get the Sonics back

Post#1 » by Supersonic » Tue Apr 15, 2008 5:50 am

Cool, I can end my boycott of Starbucks:

Howard Schultz plans to sue Clay Bennett to get Sonics back

Nearly two years after selling Seattle's NBA franchise to Oklahoma City investors, the Starbucks mogul has hired a lawyer and is preparing to file a lawsuit against Sonics chairman Clay Bennett to rescind the July 2006 sale.

At least someone took a stand to do something about the Sonics moving.

The lying Okies didn't follow through with their end of the bargain. A contract is a contract. Plus more legal bleeding for those crooks!

WHAT?!

I'm sorry, but this is utterly ridiculous. I know Schultz is gonna be looked at as a hero for trying this, but he's the guy that put the Sonics in his position in the beginning. Even the most casual of NBA fans knew that Clay Bennett was looking for a NBA team for the sole purpose of moving it to Oklahoma City. That was clear from day one. There's no way you can convince me that Howard Schultz didn't know that was the case when he signed the papers to sell the team to Bennett. This whole "Bennett told me they were going to make a good faith effort to keep the team in Seattle" stuff that Schultz is trying to sell is garbage. He knew Bennett's intentions just as everyone else did, but he still decided to sell them the team.

More power to the guy, but this is just making an ugly situation even worse. I doubt he'll win, but if he does, I seriously hope people don't forget that it was all his fault in the first place.

Thank you for that great legal analysis.

He might not win, but this further muddies the relocation waters for Bennett and company.

While everyone might have 'assumed' that. If there is some documents out there that said he would really try to make it work here, and his intention was to never even really try, then he just dun screwed himself.

Should be a fun courtcase.

Character?! The same guy who sold the team to the highest bidder 2 seasons ago knowing full well that Clay Bennett's goal was to get a team in Oklahoma City? The same guy that's now trying to look like a savior to get the team back as they already have one foot out the door? The same guy that's now giving Sonic fans (what is likely) false hope of the team staying? That guy has character?

I agree that Seattle fans do deserve better, they shouldn't have to deal with either of these jokers.

If they promise in writing to have a good faith effort to keep the team in seattle, and they don't do that?

People can keep on going on about how everyone knew they were going to move the team to OKC, but the fact is, Other owners were against this sale, and only agreed once they got the good faith portion in writing.

Pretty sure he's trying to save face here, the whole 'Good Faith' thing seems too vague to build a winning case around. Still that's two lawsuits their facing now, maybe that and the bad press this is getting may sway some owner votes on Friday.

Yeah I doubt it, but hey doesn't hurt to hope.

The situation up in Seattle keeps getting uglier and uglier every passing day now.

I feel for Sonic fans, all parties involved with concerns to ownership should be ashamed.

Trying to save face or not, I don't give a crap. He might be the savior of the Sonics! That works for me!
