Camby Might be Available

Post#1 » by raferfenix » Tue Apr 15, 2008 6:03 am

A whole lot of Nuggets fans are pretty sure of this, as their salary situation is pretty out of control yet their team doesn't seem poised to break out in the stocked west.

I think Camby would be a huge help to our defense, and I think his career would be extended by being able to play next to Bogut. Yi would still get a lot of minutes (especially since Camby misses his fair share of games), and by the time Camby is set for reduced minutes Yi should be breaking out if he's going to.

So what do people think we'd trade for Camby? Here are two deals I'd for sure do if we had a plan to get rid of Dan Gadzuric in a different deal:

Bucks trade: #7 pick, Desmond Mason, Charlie Bell
Nuggets trade: Marcus Camby, Linas Kleiza

or preferably

Bucks trade: Charlie Villanueva, Desmond Mason, Charlie Bell
Nuggets trade: Marcus Camby

Nuggets would have to have high hopes for Charlie Bell in Denver to do this, but I think either scenario would be considered at the very least.

If Denver moves anyone to save money, it will be one of their power forwards - Nene or K-Mart. Camby is vital to that team's success and his contract is very manageable.

I'd do everything in my power to get Camby without giving up our pick, Yi, or Bogut. If that's possible, I'm all for it. At this point though, we're a long ways away from winning a ton of games unless some risky moves are made this offseason. That pick, or whatever we trade it for, needs to be able to be a significant part of this franchise for more than one or two years. Camby is already 34 years old, and I don't see it being a smart move for us.

I think our money would be far better spent on a high priced PG, SG, SF, or PF than a high priced C, who within a relatively short period of time will most likely be nowhere near the player our current C is. Bogut is going to cost plenty to keep, is a much much bigger offensive threat than Camby is currently and is collecting almost 2bpg as it is. Camby is a better rebounder but is also more than 10 years older than Bogut.
The only way I even consider spending big money for another C is if it's in exchange for Bogut, and there's no way I trade Bogut for Camby, sorry.

Totally. His contract actually DECREASES in the next two years. If he was really available it would have been nice to do a Redd for Camby/Najera/J.R. Smith swap during the season.

I would have agreed with you wholeheartedly until I checked this thread on their board: http://realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php? ... sc&start=0

Now of course the fans very easily could be jumping the gun, but considering how much mroe difficult it'd be to trade either Kmart or Nene I don't think a camby trade for cap relief and young talent is out of the question at all.

Now why would you ever think the nuggets would not prefer cap room and a top 10 pick to Redd for 18 million a year?

Their time to win is now. A pick is kind of useless to them, and there aren't any free agents that will put them over the top to win a title. Having a backcourt of AI, Redd, and Melo for this year and next would have been their best chance.

I don't think it would be as difficult for Denver to move one of their power forwards as some might think. No matter how expensive, there is always a market for quality big men.

I guess I would be pretty shocked to see Camby moved, especially to the Bucks, who don't seem like a sensible trading partner. Denver is a veteran team looking to push themselves over the top. The Bucks don't have the pieces to give them for that. Meanwhile, the Bucks are a lost team looking towards the future. A 34 year old player that plays the same position as our best young talent just doesn't seem likely.

I just dont see how that saves them money though. After next season theyd have to resign CV to a deal anyways. (And Iverson too) And in the short term it costs them MORE next year to have those three than Camby 12 mil (approx) vs 8 mil for camby. (Which also leads me to believe that this trade would need to happen before June 30th since Cambys salary is at 10 mil this year and those three combined are right around there.
