Portland Trades
-Raef LaFrentz
-Channing Frye
-James Jones
-Jarrett Jack
-2009 lotto protected 1st round pick
-NYK or MEM(Whichever is highest) 2008 2nd round pick

Milwaukee Trades
-Mo Williams
-Desmond Mason

That is likley undervaluing him. I would also include #13 if the 2009 pick & Frye are taken out.

Even though you add Mason to somewhat offset Lafrentz' expiring deal, this still destroys Portland's objective of having enough cap room to make a significant free agent splash in summer 2009. If we were talking a point guard of Baron Davis' caliber, for instance, then Portland would probably say cap space be damned, and make a deal - but it's Mo Williams, not Baron Davis.

The thing is, Portland was a top 10 defensive team this season while sporting the likes of Jarret Jack and Steve Blake, neither of whom are particularly good defenders IMO. Portland was also a bottom 10 offensive team this offseason. Insert Mo Williams and he's the type of guy who can provide an offensive burst while not being completely terrible at creating for others.

Portland's best option, IMO, is to try to trade up and get into a position to nab Russell Westbrook. If not that, Mo Williams is probably the next best thing.

I'd say Mo would make for a great fit with either the Heat or Blazers.

For a Blazers deal, I'd be down with what Skones proposed:
Bell and Mo for Raef and the 10th pick.

I'd say from there, the bucks can draft their new combo guard in Westbrook and then look at either a sf or a guy down low like Love.

I'd absolutely love that deal though, and I think it helps the Blazers alot as well.

Blake and Jack are both better defensively than Mo, particularly Jack. We agree that Mo would be a very good fit and would help the Blazers. I still maintain that he's not good enough or valuable enough for them to sacrifice their shot at a top tier free agent next summer, though.

Mo is one of the best midrange jump shooters on earth. He's also a decent three point shooter, and finisher around the hoop. He shies away from contact though, so he doesn't get to the line a lot.

He's a good rebounder for a guard, and an adequate passer (great if viewed as a sg, subpar if viewed as a pg). He's also an excellent ball handler.

Negatives are that he is a very bad defender, and doesn't really play like a point guard.

If you actually wanted him to behave like the combo guard that he is (instead of as a full-time point guard), I think you'd love him. That is, if you have a few other good defenders on your roster.
