The Knicks and the Pacers have agreed to a trade:
The Pacers trade:
Ben Wallace 15.5 million
The Bucks 2008 second rounder (currently #37)
The Knicks trade:
Dan Gadzuric 5.74 million (contract is one year longer than Wallace)
Quincy Douby 1.33 million
Bobby Jackson 5.67 million (expires the year b4 Wallace)
The Bulls 2008 second rounder (currently #39)
5.74+ 1.33+ 5.67= 12.74 x 1.25 = 15.9 (within 125% of Wallace's salary)
The Knicks accept.

The Knicks and Clippers have come to an agreement on a blockbuster deal:
The Knicks send:
Gilbert Arenas
Mark Masden
The Clippers send:
Joe Johnson
Clippers 2009 second rounder
The Knicks accept. Although it is tough for me to deal Arenas I feel this deal was for the best. My team looks like one that may have a problem rebounding. Eddy Curry and Peja aren't good rebounders and I am not sure exactly what I will get from guys like Blanche and Wallace (Blanche because of his youth and Wallace because of his age). Joe Johnson is a very good rebounding for a guard and I also like that he's bigger and doesn't dominate the ball as much as Arenas.
I am now in a very good position. I have potentially 3 draft picks this year including a top 10 pick and 2 borderline firsts. Next year I'll have 2 lottery picks and 2 more borderline firsts. With so many picks and an interesting mix of players I can go a lot of different ways in this draft. It will be fun.

See below (from http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm#53)
There is one exception whereby a player can continue to receive his salary, but the salary is not included in the team's team salary. This is when a player is forced to retire for medical reasons and a league-appointed physician confirms that he is medically unfit to continue playing. There is a waiting period of one year following the injury or illness before a team can apply for this salary cap relief. If the waiting period expires mid-season (on any date prior to the last day of the regular season), then the player's entire salary for that season is removed from the team's team salary. For example, in March 2003 the Knicks were allowed to remove Luc Longley's entire 2002-03 salary from their books (and since the luxury tax is based on the team salary as of the last day of the regular season, the Knicks avoided paying any tax on Longley's salary). This provision can also be used when a player dies while under contract.
Teams are not allowed to trade for disabled players and then apply for this salary cap relief. Only the team for which the player was playing when he was disabled may request this relief.

I assume this means GSW and not me (Portland), but I also hear something about if I sign him to a deal, his old contract kicks back into place (honestly we should have this on the main thread, not the transactions thread)
