If the Bucks stay at #7 and trade the pick

Post#1 » by barbados73 » Wed Apr 16, 2008 2:22 am

I was just wanting to see if we could come up with a list of guys that might be available and that the Bucks might have interest in if they decided to trade their 1st rd pick(assuming they stay at #7). Lets try to keep this realistic, no Kobe for the #7 type offers. So anyone have any ideas??

In the past couple seasons Ray Allen and Antwan Jamison have been dealt for picks in that range.

If that's the type of player we're likely to get, I'd rather we take a shot with a guy like Westbrook.

Fillers and cba agreements aside, do you think the Clippers would do Mo and #7 for Brand and Maggette?

With the rebuilding mindset and if CV is a filler while Maggette is removed from the equation, I'd think they strongly consider it. I don't believe they'll go the rebuilding route and I'd assume they're more inclined to move the pick out of anybody in the top 10.

That was my thinking when I decided to do this topic. Hammond didn't seem like he like the draft much and he stated something about the Pistons getting a "core" group 25 and under and letting them grow together for a few years. My thinking with this topic is who might be young enough to be part of the core, but also not so young to be a major project. Maybe someone like Marvin Williams or Devin Harris. I realize they might not be available, but those are the type of guys I am wondering about.

Seriously? Wow.

I really like Westbrook and think he could end up being up being a tremendous player. He could also end up being the next Kedrick Brown. Antwan Jamison came to DC and was instantly a huge part of the Wizards returning to the playoffs for the first time in a decade. Look what Allen has helped the Celtics do this year.

I'd be thrilled trade the 7th pick for a player good enough to instantly turn the Bucks into a playoff team.

If we're at 7 and we can get a player better than Redd in a package with the 7 not including Bogut, I'm down with it. Otherwise, I use it.

I do not trade down and I do not trade the pick for role players.

The talent base needs to be expanded.

I'm tired of "taking chances". Isn't taking a chance what we're doing with Yi? CV? Bogut?

Nearly every player in the NBA looked great in college, very few of them can transfer that over to the NBA. Remember, Dan Gadzuric set the UCLA record for blocks.

I'd trade the #7 pick for a Ray Allen or Jamison anyday.

I was talking about the Clippers, my mistake on the lack of clarification. I was just responding to the trade proposal and what the Clippers might do.

I am one that hopes the Bucks go the rebuilding route :D

Ditto. I'll take the proven All-Star caliber player over someone who might become an All Star but is hardly a guarantee to become one. As far as the big names who might be available this summer I could see Hinrich being available and I think he's definitely a Hammond-type player. McGrady could also be available if the Rockets bow out in the first round again. I think it's a safe bet Lamar Odom will be on the block since he's arguably the No. 4 player on that team if Bynum's healthy and you can't pay all that money for a fourth option - even one as talented as Odom.

Odom would be a good get IMO. His ballhandling and versatility would really help the Bucks.

Redd/7th pick for McGrady plus fillers?

Sounds like Hinrich will definitely be available.

I don't want Hinrich. He just seems like an average player to me and we will have to give up a lot to get him.

I'm not sure about Odom being available. His play making has been a huge part of the Lakers success.

He's a terrific player. I'm a huge fan of his game and always have been. However, if you have Bynum healthy that means Gasol has to play PF and Odom moves to SF. I'm not sure that's an ideal position for him. Plus, I'm not sure even a team like the Lakers wants to pay $14.6M for a fourth option. Also, Odom's contract expires after next season, making him even more appealing from a trade standpoint for LA.

i'd be chasing jose calderon. there's not enough room on that raps team for him and ford, one of them will go this off-season.

straight trade. though calderon's trade value is pretty high.

With AK having an off year, I'd try to package Redd with the 7th pick (and with CV, Mason or Bell) for him and one of Utah's young guys. Try to get AK along with one of Brewer/Almond/Millsap.

You build on the draft, not trading a good pick for used merchandise. Westbrook is a player on which the Bucks can build. I would rather see the Bucks either trade up or down; however, you keep the pick.

We already have Bogut and Yi on this team. How many years are we going to build it? This team is like the Marquette interchange.

The Bucks finally have a good GM in place, one who values defense. Give him a shot at evaluating young talent. Adding a role player on a team as weak as the Bucks will get also get us nowhere fast. THis is the same team on which the poor scoring Bulls ran up a 151 points recently. No matter what direction the team goes in, success won't happen overnight. On a team with only 2 or 3 keepers, the draft is the best way to go.

No question. Trading for role players is the last thing this team needs to do. We need to find a way to add that talent better than Redd/Bogut. If we can do that with the #7 pick and other pieces, so be it, otherwise you use it in the draft and see what you can get there.

For a non-contending team that is still a couple years away at least from contending, nothing would be a worse idea than trading a lottery pick for a role player. Nothing.
