Key OFFSEASON Pickups

Post#1 » by RawTmacSkillz » Tue Apr 15, 2008 9:35 pm

Hello i feel the need to come in here and state the key offseason pick up(s) for my rockets.

1.Elton Brand
2.Antwan Jamison

Both these players would elevate the rockets to championship LEVEL right away..now im not sure how much cap room we have and much these players would be valued for(maybe 14mill per year)
With these two players that are all star caliber at the PF position would greatly improve the seeminless weak front line that includes yao.

Along with a boost in production both bring intensity in DEF and this plays well with tha rockets.

Please holla back with your thoughts and other possible aquisitions

BEST FIRST POST EVER! ITS GENIUS! WHY HAS NOONE ELSE THOUGHT OF THIS!!!

p.s. I think adding Gilbert Arenas with these 2 might make us the favorite to win our division at least next year...
Yao Ming Fan boys annoy me...
Tracy McGrady fan boys annoy me...
Steve Francis fan boys annoy me...

Love the idea, but unfortunately we don't have money to offer to either of these players and don't have the pieces to acquire them in a sign and trade deal. Too unrealistic.

Brand it's impossible.

Jamison it's possible in a sign and trade with the Wizards, but i'am not sure i want to trade Battier++picks+good rookies for him.

Hey there its true im a first time poster on the site but i believe my statement holds true in certain ways.

First i dont plan on the rockets aquiring both players next year, thats just riduculus. I would target one player only, if i had my choice i would pick Brand because hes more goal oriented.

Secondly, Arenas? i like him but i just dont see him fitting in with the rockets, he doesnt play much D and he gambles on D alot, plus he has looked shaky at times afta coming back from his injury.

I would like to know what the rockets cap room is currently and brand or jamison should amount for about 10 to 15millions, brand is still a bit unproven as he is coming back from injury..but i have no doubt in his talents and im sure other GMs would agree too.

with that said, go ahead and fire away with your thoughts.

We will be over the cap next season. As long as Tracy and Yao are under contract with us, we won't have any cap space. You can check out our specific players salaries here: http://hoopshype.com/salaries/houston.htm

We will not be able to sign any big free agents like Brand or Jamison, unless they want to sign for the MLE, and we don't have the pieces to trade for them. We wouldn't include Tracy or Yao in a deal for either of them. I don't think another big man is our biggest need. I think Yao, Scola, Hayes, and Landry handle the 4 and 5 rotation pretty well. Mutumbo might even be back.

We need better PG play and a 3rd scoring option. I think Maggette would be a great fit, because we need someone who likes to drive and create contact. Mike Miller would obviously be a great fit as well. I don't know which PGs we will be able to target, but I'd love one who can consistently hit down his shots, which is something that eludes Rafer, Bobby, and Aaron.

The next NBA player to opt out of a max contract to take a MLE on a contender will be the first.(No Brand.) Jameson will want much more than the MLE and can certainly get it elsewhere.
I am not sold on our PFs,esp the way they got their butts kicked on the boards the past few games. Landry still hasn't regained his explosiveness, and has not shown he can defend the elite 4s.
Look at the diff on D when Motumbo plays and when he's out. Players are very hesitant around rim when he's in,take it strong when he's out. The Rockets NEED a a mobile big who blocks shots and rebound.
If I was Morey I'd send Emeka Okafor some Playoff tickets and have an "usher" hint that taking a MLE for a few yrs on a title contender in his home town beats a few extra million dollars on a loser.

Yao can hide a lot of their weaknesses though, he will raise their games to another level.

I agree with the weakness we have at the 4/5 positions. Especially in the west, we don't have a chance *Ahem* if an injury occurs. I like Okafor, but the bobcats offered more money than we can probably give him. NBA players are most likely going to go for the money. I think the draft is the only legit chance we have of getting a impact player. With the MLE, I don't think we can get a player that can put us over the top. So the GM has to make a decision this year or next to move players and gamble on winning a championship. The Spurs window is closing and Nash can't possibly play too much longer at a high level. So I'm not worried about them, but Portland and younger teams in the East might be the elites in the near future. Again, this next year or the next might be the best time to go for that championship run (Spurs/Suns decline and before the younger teams ascension).

Arenas, now Jamison?

Omg lets trade our two, for there three!!!!

Nah, but I think getting Jamison wouldn't be that great of an idea, the guy isn't too great on defense, and he will be looking for a big contract, but how do you guys look at paying a guy 12-14 mil for the next 6 yrs, and isn't he 30 right now?

The first thing you said is just outthere...nobodys talking about bring the wizards roster 2 houston.

With that said, Im not sure what Jamisons age is you prolly right around 30 since he did play for warriors now wizards..but he has always been productive..yu can expect to survive in the west with a weak PF. No disrespect to Scola cux i love how he plays but hes better suted to come of the bench with energy? And like my man said Okafor wouldnt be to bad of a fit eather..Yao needs someone to be a banger and grabs some loose balls n block shots and keep him out of foul trouble.

Fix the point guard situation first, watching rafer shoot the ball is killing me

You've watched Rafer shoot recently? All I've seen him do is sit on the bench.

I would kill to have him back in the lineup shooting (and passing) the ball.

Return to Houston Rockets
