New Orleans would rather see Dallas get the 8th seed, and have them bounce LAL.
This of course assumes that Kobe does indeed, win the MVP.
How crazy would it be if in consecutive years the #1 WC team who also happens to have the league's MVP gets bounced by an 8? Stuff for the ages right there.
In seriousness, I don't think the Hornets particularly fear either match-up. Given the turmoil and inconsistency surrounding the Nuggets, they would be the easy choice, sure. But Dallas has had their share of problems matching up with the Hornets, so I think either team can be beaten in a 7-game series.
I fear the "lightning in a bottle" scenario (Denver) more than anything else.

Im very pleased by the results of this poll, because just about everytime there is a poll involving the Denver Nuggets, they end up getting trashed (last 2 years running for "who will miss the playoffs", the nuggets have been heavily voted as the odd man out) but beat the realgm "odds".
If I am NO I would be extremely worried about the matchup issues with Denver. You do NOT want Paul guarding Iverson, but outside of Paul the only guy that really has a chance is Pargo. Paul will inevitably end up on iverson for at least 20 mpg, and that's bad news for the Hornets. The Melo vs. Peja match up is also going to be a headache for the Hornets.
On the other hand, Kenyon Martin will be able to match up well with David West defensively and Marcus Camby will off set Tyson Chandler.
As far as match ups go, I think the Hornets are better suited to beat the Mavs than the Nuggets.

the hornets haven't won in dallas since '98 or something like that
meanwhile denver might get 140 in one game and 130 in another, but they won't do it four times against a team that plays defense. there's a reason we trash their team. they're not that good.
the hornets are underrated on D IMO
i don't want us playing dallas
as for cp3 vs. iverson, i didn't know AI could keep up with CP on his end

I realize that this thread is about who NO would want to face in the first round, but I think it should also be taken into consideration who the Mavs want to play in the first round. I would not automatically assume that NO has control of who they will play in the first round.
if NO wants to play Denver and the Mavs want to play NO and not the Lakers than we have a real game and not tank jobs.

wow, why is Dallas so much better than Denver? It looks like at most they could be 1 game behind Dallas, while holding the tiebreaker. I really don't understand all the hate Denver gets. All you fans can talk a big game and act like playing Denver is a garaunteed win but I'll bet your coach is thinking that.
And I would rather the nuggets play the hornets, I think you baised fans need to realize that an 8 game difference throughout the western conference playoff teams is nothing, any team can beat any other team.

New Orleans only had their way with Denver once this season.....when they didn't have Melo.
The other two games Denver controlled, winning one and choking at the end in the other.
There's dangerous matchups for the Hornets no matter who they get. Dallas and Denver are both unknowns. For both teams it depends which one shows up on that night. Denver's 2nd half defense has been a surprise since the AllStar break and Dallas has been hit or miss vs +500 teams.
All this will be settled tho in 2 weeks I guess.
