Sleepy Floyd, GOAT quarter?

Post#1 » by Point forward » Wed Apr 16, 2008 8:25 pm

Who had the GOAT quarter in NBA history? I skip all the Wilts, Michaels and Kareems and nominate SLEEPY FLOYD.

Game 4, 1987 playoffs, Lakers-Warriors is 98-83 late in the 3rd quarter with a 3-0 LA lead. Sleepy then proceeds to ANNIHILATE the Lakers. He scores 16 points in less than 240 seconds on MICHAEL COOPER (!!!) and simply dismantles him. Floyd scores basket after basket on Coop with Kareem guarding the basket and with Scott and Magic playing help D. Floyd simply turns into Superman, ends with TWENTY NINE points for that 4th quarter and leads a team of *cough* Carroll, Teagle, Whitehead, Ballard et al to victory.

I don't think that this ever has been done in playoffs and with a Top 3 perimeter defender in NBA history (Cooper) guarding you.

If you're talking about the time he scored 29 of the Cavs last 30 points, that started around the end of the 4th quarter, and ended after double OT, so while it happened over roughly 12 mins of game time, it wasn't really one quarter.

Have to add that famous Isiah Thomas 4th quarter against Lakers where he had injured his ankle late in the game, Thomas continued to play and while hobbling and in obvious pain, Isiah still scored NBA Finals record 25 points in a quarter.

That was pretty sick too, no pun intended.

lol at the announcer sounding shocked when he says "magic johnson has missed 2 3 pointers in this quarter alone!!!"

somewhere, a 10 year old larry hughes was jealous.
