The Playoffs r the 1st step 2 winning the title....NEXT Year

Post#1 » by McGrady2Head » Thu Apr 17, 2008 2:55 am

We had a good shot this year, we had a good team. but now? come on, no Yao, No Rafer? we dont have a chance. We still stuck together as a team, went on a 22 game winning streak, and made the playoffs. We will get pounded in Round 1, but that doesnt mean this season was a disappointment. We got 2 rookies in Carl Landry and Luis Scola that are AMAZING. we hit the jackpot with these 2 guys for real.

I believe this year we had a shot at winning it all. I believe jon barry had brent barry convinced to come here, and the day he was about to make that decision, we all heard that yao was out. but the team that could have been...

Alston/B. Jackson
T-Mac/Head
Battier/Barry
Scola/Landry
Yao/Mutombo

that team is very well rounded. I believe 2 things need to happen before we win the title next year. #1. Luis Scola and Carl Landry need this years playoff experience to be effective in next years playoffs. because of the great way we ended this season, they will get that experience. Landry and Scola with yao and t-mac will make us tough for years. #2. Luther Head needs to be replaced. He is our only real weakness. hes just to short. david wesley game us nightmare matchups, and luther gives us nightmare matchups. i like him, hes nice, hes a good shooter, but his size makes him terrible. we must have a 6 foot 5 inch or taller player to back up t-mac and battier. we should look into drafting that player, or trading head for that player. head is our only weakness

We'll never win a title with Rafer starting at PG.

Rockets are 100% gonna use BJax's contract to acquire a good player. Probably a point guard. BJax will not be back.

One thing though...can forget about next year and worry about the Jazz on Saturday.

True. It's frustrating with the way things have gone this year but you still have to believe as long as there is still ball left to be played. I see us as a spoiler. No more -- no less.

I think Rafer gets unfair treatment. I honestly don't think he is to bad. I thin the rox organization have unfairly but all the point guard burden on him and given him no help. He is a great defender, he is a low turnover guy, and hes a good passer. Sure, he cant do somethings good. I think Rafer would be alot more valuable if he had a pg playing behind him who could play, where we wouldnt have to rely on rafer as much. i believe bobby jackson was a good pickup. Head, francis, brooks, mikey jameschise, etc have given him ZERO help the last 2 years. the pg position could really be good for us if we found rafer a good backup who can do some of the things he cant

Its like you didn't watch that series. I hear a lot say this crap. Williams NEVER played when the game was tight. He would start. But Payton got all the big minutes. Behind Rafer we got nobody.

I don't know about winning a title because we still need more but it always makes you wonder how good we'd really be with a healthy Yao and Rafer in the playoffs. Kind of sad really.

B/c they had Shaq and D.Wade that recieved sooo many phantom calls. Also, J. Will did enough for them to win, hit some shots, not too many TOs, something that Skip can do too. We have a Shaq in Yao, but T-mac rarely plays like Wade. When he does, it's not consistent enough to win a series.

What we need is an Andre Miller type of PG that can create for teammates so T-Mac can concentrate on the only thing he should be doing: Scoring. Also, I think the coaching staff needs to tell him to stop facilitating when Skip is in there. He makes a couple of good passes a game, but he also makes a couple of TOs by passing up shots he should take. A defensive big man wouldnt hurt either.

I think you guys will be the best team in the league next year as long as everyone is healthy. I would love to see you guys play the Lakers in Round 1 next season.

Realistically there are 4 teams that are rather young: Rockets, Lakers, Hornets and Jazz who will be able to go all the way next season.

Daniel Booby Jackson is a baller. People aren't giving him enough credit.

if i had to make a number 3 of things i think we need to happen before next year if we are going to win the title, it would be getting another steal in the draft. If we can hit it big with another great pickup like we did last year with Landry, that would be perfect. i hope the scouting team is working right now to find the best player

Iggy,
Bobby Jackson is Adelman's security blankie. Coach isn't going to give up a proven vet who knows his system.
I have finally come to the view that it would be best to replace Alston. Not for what he does wrong, but for what he doesn't do. He simply cannot create shots for other players. I'd like the Rockets to have a guy who can get into the lane and pass it back to an open Battier,Scola, whoever. I'd like a PG who can get it to Yao at the right spot,at the right time.
However,I don't see a viable candidate to replace Alston,so I fully expect to see Rafer "Rasputin" Alston as the starting PG next yr.
One nice thing about this yr is nobody is clamoring for Francis anymore.W/any luck the Rox will trade him for a decent young wing.(A sign and trade w/Clips for Quinton Ross would be very nice.)
In fact a pretty good off-season would be:
1)Sign Landry to LLE for two yrs
2)Sign and trade Francis for Ross($2.5mil,$2.5mil,$2.5mil w/option on second yr)
3)Sign Diop $3.5mil of MLE.(Motumbo helps in recruiting  )
4)Draft a wing shooter-Rush/Ty Smith/Courtney Lee.
5)Talk Motumbo into 1 more yr.

Yao,Diop,Motumbo
Scola,Landry,Hayes,Novak
Battier,Harris
McGrady,Head,Draft Pick
Alston,Jackson,Brooks
