Players I think we'll trade this season before the deadline:
Ordonez - Having another great season, will net us the most value in trade.
Pudge - Deal expires after this season. We'll likely deal him to get some value back instead of just letting him walk after the season.
Renteria - Still has good value. Range in field is decreasing...we should trade him before his value does as well.
Sheffield - A team needing a bat might take a flyer on Sheff....but we likely won;t get much back for him....
Rogers - Could get a lot of value for Rogers from a team looking to add another solid arm for their pennant run.
Todd Jones - Same as Rogers. Teams looking to make a run always need more relievers. Plus, Zumaya is our closer for the future.
Good throw-in players that will help deals go thru:
1b Larish - Already have too many 1b/DH players. He's been a stud in the minors...
OF Thames - Power bat will draw looks from team looking to add a bat.
When do we blow up the Tigers?

Sheff is pretty worthless at this point. We'd have to eat up a lot of salary to unload him of our roster. He's one of those players you literally can't give away.
Ordonez would have a lot of value to a team, at least in theory. Renteria is having a decent season and could fetch something for a contending team, but would it be more than we gave up? Doubt it.
Rogers is pretty old, somehow don't see us getting much for him.
But yeah, definetely the time to talk about this given a playoff run isn't looking too likely for this team.
Verlander is one of our untouchables, as is Cabrera given the ungodly contract he just got. Given how much money is already invested in this group, I wouldn't be surprised to see the brass decide to hold on to the majority of the team in hopes that things come together next year. The wasted talent here is as astronomical as the wasted money.

^I dunno about free agents. I can't see us being players regardless of whose out there.
I didn't say we shouldn't start dealing off pieces, just stated that its highly possible we won't/can't.
I worry that the outcome of this season may have traumatized our owner out of putting up BIG bucks for players. We've proved we are willing to spend before this season with results, but made the biggest push of all this season and had it blow up in our faces.
My other team, the Padres, gave some big contracts to offensive players a few years back only to have it all come to not, and they haven't signed a significant free agent since....

Agreed, wait 1 more year, if anyone is traded it's Pudge, Sheff or a "throw in" player.

This is very important - we do not want to wait 1 year too many to trade players while their value it HIGH.
Ordonez's value might be at its peak right now.
If we could deal Pudge/Rogers/Jones at the deadline to teams wanting to make runs for the pennant, it would be the most ideal scenario IMO.
I would be happy to keep Renteria, but he's nowhere nearly untouchable...
We should look to build around Granderson, Cabrera, Verlander, Bonderman, Porcello, Zumaya, and Willis.

I think the best way to turn this thing back into a winner is to build around Cabrera, Granderson, Verlander, Bonderman, Willis, Porcello, and Zumaya (all young studs). Back back into focusing on pitching and defense....
Keep in mind, if we simply trade Ordonez, we'll be getting at least 2 prime prospects from the other team.....
Now also trade Pudge, Rogers, and Jones, and we'll get AT LEAST 3 more...
Adding 5 prime prospects to the young list of players already here, and we'll have a VERY GOOD foundation....

It's hard to get GREAT quality prospects for aging veteran bats. Who BTW are struggling, not maggs but Jones who's a pitcher, hasn't had his best year and Pudge is declining and Rogers is declining.

No need to blow up this team of late, we're playing great baseball, let's wait till the season is over before any stars get moved around.

Re: When do we blow up the Tigers?
Barring a major setback that gets started fairly soon, I'm thinking this run might be just enough to persuade the brass to stick with this group.
We'll know by the end of the season whether that's a good thing or not....
