I don't want Flip as a PG...backup or otherwise. If I had to choose one of the players to resign...I would resign Rush. But I would prefer to use whatever $$$ we had to sign Quinton Ross. We need a solid perimeter defender at the Guard position that can play 15-20 minutes a game next to / behind Granger/Dunleavy/Shawne.

Who do we sign? NOBODY! We need to focus on the draft for our help, possibly using both picks on PGs. Develop those we have on the roster already, and trade Tinsley for cap space, or another PG who is more ideal for Obie's system.

we dont need no more swingmen. We're stacked at the position. I would rather look at PG Ramon Session from the Bucks

Ignoring how we would get the salary cap space, I would do the following:

1 ) Draft a Big Man in the 1st round and Perimeter Defending Guard
2 ) Sign Quinton Ross or make a trade for Adrian Griffin or Greg Buckner
3 ) Sign Croshere to a Vet minimum contract ( yes, that Croshere ) as a 4th/5th rotational Big Man.

All of those are things we could logically do. Signing Croshere to a vet minimum is always a possibility and he would make some sense with Obie as coach. Quinton Ross will not command more than the MLE, and shouldn't command more than half of it. If we could find a way to dump Marquis contract for immediate cap relief, or even cut it a bit in a trade, we could probably make those two moves.

The draft picks are a possibility as well, just depending on how the chips fall on draft night.

I agree that Ross shouldn't get that much....but I can guarantee that some team is going to snatch him up the second the FA market opens up. My hope is that Bird realizes that we need a role-player perimeter defender that can come into play 15 mpg while sharing the floor with the Granger and Dunleavy.

As for Croshere, you probably notice something similiar among the signings that I was suggesting.....all very cheap low-cost FA signings......the only realistic moves that I think that TPTB can make short of trading JONeal due to our Salary cap restrictions in the upcoming season.

Teams will overpay for Ross a little bit (after watching tonights game, I'd say Phoenix is in the market for more perimeter defenders after trading Marion away...). I'd like to have him, I think hes the sort of player we need in the rotation to get us back on the right path.

I think Ross will have to wait until a bit later in the free agency period. Teams right now know that there are only two or three teams under the luxury tax, but a lot of players that think they're worth much more than the MLE. They'll wait to see if these guys will end up signing for the MLE before they go ahead and use it on Quinton Ross. Once teams start whiffing on the bigger fish, then Quinton Ross will get his due contract in the middle or second round of free agency.

Again...ignoring how we would get under the Luxury Tax threshold.....I would hope that Bird would recognize that we need the type of Perimeter defender that Ross is and how cheap he would likely come and be at Quinton's door the minute the FA period opens up.

I don't want to see what usually happens in the FA period when all the good FA ( top tier or roleplayers ) are snatched up in the beginning and all that we have left is the "slim pickings" from the remaining FA crop. To me, if you know hwat you want, how much you are willing to pay and who you want.....you immediately try to get him.....you don't dilly-dally hoping to get him for a cheaper price.

That's what I fear about Bird and whatever level of experience he has....I have no clue if he actually recognizes that we need some players with defensive skills and whether he would actually go out and really pursue that type of player. I would hope this is true....but ( unfortunately ) I can totally see Bird go out and try to sign another SF that he thinks can shoot the ball thinking that we still have no shooters.

I don't mind overpaying ( a little ) to get a solid perimeter defender for the immediate future. There are reasons why players like Trenton Hassell, Adrian Griffin, Raja Bell and Greg Buckner get signed to 2-4 mil a year / 3-4 year contracts.....it's because all teams NEED these type of players to shore up their defense to guard against the opposing team's scoring Guards.

I think that if a player like Ross, Griffin, Hassell or Buckner are available and the cost is within reason.....I think that it would be wise to pursue them ASAP....even if it means overpaying just a little bit.
