Only this year has Bogut really appeared to make an effort to "connect" with his teammates..and to a certain degree with the fans. Prior to that Bogut came off as a brooding emo type and was somewhat standoffish at times.. I'm not going to say that he is totally devoid of leadership skills but he still has a long way to go in developing relationships, he's good at the sound bites and speaking his mind but that doesn't make him a leader. Honestly he has a long way to go before he gets there.. so his acheivements on the court are good but still haven't established him as the man for who can lead this team (Redd either for that matter). He made some good strides this year, and his relationship with a few choice players isn't as bad as some of you believe..but he still isn't completely there yet.jerrod wrote:-= original quote snipped =-
i'm definitely not one of those "bogut must be the leader" people, but on the sonics he'd be one of the most productive players, would have been in the league 3 times as long as their stars and does seem to interact fairly well with most people. he also would have been on the top already so he and durant probably would have gotten along better than he and redd. that's just my line of thinking.
to clarify my other point, i meant that because you need everyone to not have those feelings for their to be absolutely no issues, and you only need 1 out of 12 to have those feelings for there to potentially be racial issues. so just statistically you'd think there would be issues fairly often
I think the biggest mistake this franchise has made many times has been to "force" the issue of who should be a leader. Desmond Mason was a leader on this team before he was traded, and we missed him when he was gone because no one else was able to fill that role. Well they brought him back and now he must reestablish himself in that role because a number of the players are different, and a number of them have tried to step up and assert themselves into that role also so they aren't as open as before. Also, whenever Bogut and Redd have been placed in the positions of captains of the team we have complained about leadership..and that's not a coincidence. We have complained because both aren't necessarily the best choices to lead.. and once again it isn't completely because of Bogut being a young white player of a different culture and it isn't completely because Redd likes to portray himself as a humble christian.. its just my opinion that neither have that natural "it" to be the man. Perhaps we need to send a bunch of guys who claim they want to lead to a leadership conference or something so that they can learn the tools necessary to really lead anyone anywhere? I don't know.
