mhectorgato...you are tough to deal with. It seems that you don't really respect anyone opinioin but your own. Do you think that Deshawn Stevenson is a good shooter? He isn't. He was a shooting guard for ORL that couldn't shoot. Last year he had very good shooting numbers from the floor. Due to those number do you think he is a good shooter?

Speaking in generalities, if you prove your point to me, then I'll change my mind. I've changed my mind/opinion because of posters before. I've said that I was wrong before as well.

If you just say "I watch the game" then to me that's not proof. Especially if there are hard numbers which say differently.

People watch the game with specific notions in mind and that will color their view of players. That's a big reason why I typically don't accept "when I watch the game" arguments.

He's a much better shooter now in Washington. I thought he was good for us because he fit a role we had, much like Evans fits a role.

I'm in no way saying that Evans is the best we can do. But with cap space limitations and the current corps of players, he fits well. Plus he seems like a good character with a decent bball IQ.

Alright Gato. You have your point on his stats and he's played well recently and nothing should be taken from him but lets not get ahead of ourselves yet. He isn't a new player and he's been in the league for awhile now so is it that he's now coming into his own or will he revert to his normal form? Some of us still have legitimate questions about Jameer . Remember you were less than impressed for quite some time with him so more than a a few months is reasonable. I still see posts about getting another 2 guard. Really want to see how he performs at the next level.

You're right, I don't have proof except to say that if you watch him play and you know the game, mo evans is not a starting 2 guard. He does not have the ability to consistently shoot the mid range jumper or create his own shots on a consistent basis. I don't have proof, just watch the game. I'm not saying that I don't like Mo, I think he doesn fit in well with the team. I was just stating what I notice about his game.

Shard is very effective and no he is not the prototypical 4. Don't you think by moving him over to the 3 and getting a real 4 this team would be better over the long haul?

That site run by Roland Beech and it is a very reputable site.

Ok, Gato good points. But a lot can be said by watching games and not just reading the stat sheet. And Deshawn is a much better shooter now you're right. Going by stats, which you like, he shot under 40% from the floor this year.

Sorry for the sarcasm, you bring up some okay points. Obviously you will not budge on this, but I'm sure Evans name will not come up in anyone "good shooter" discussion anytime soon.

OK devin. I take it back, he is a very reputable statistician. I had just never visited the site before. Thanks for clearing it up for me.

I agree completely. Going back to DS, it's also a matter of role and that changes the type and amount of looks.

In the begining of the year he was the, at best 4th option. When Gilbert and Caron were out, he was the #1 option in the back court. This is where watching the game comes in.

However, because of personal viewpoints, what one considers a good shooter vs another's is a matter of opinion.

But then again, if the numbers show that he hits a high % of his shots, by definition he's a good shooter.

I have a question. Where does this "JJ is a great passer" and "has such a high basketball IQ come into play"? In college his junior/senior years playing over 37 mins a game he avg 2.6 apg. That's not too impressive to me, especially when he avg 2.5 turnovers per game. He had an A/T ratio of 1.06. I know it's tough to look at his nba stats, since he hasn't had consistent mins, but in 11.8 mpg he is avg .7 apg. multiply that out 4 times to get close to a 48 min and it's still sub 3.

While I completely understand you don't need assists to be an effective passer, his passing just never really stood out to me. He's small, so entry passes have gotten harder for him. I've never really seen many passes and think to myself, wow that's an incredible pass. I'll give you that he has a good basketball IQ, but I wouldn't go as far and say best on the team as a lot of you guys do.

With that said, I was very impressed with his play against Washington because he was able to make an impact when he couldn't make anything in the 2nd/3rd quarters. That's just one game though, if he can continue that I can see him getting 8-10 mpg, but I'd still have Evans and Bogans over him because you know they are better defenders and rebounders and with our team that's what we need.

JJ's not going to get PT as long as we continue to play Dwight, Hedo, Shard close to 40 mins and Jameer over 30 mins. That's 4 people who should get the rock before JJ, so why have JJ on the court if he's going to be a 4th or 5th option. Put him on the court with a similar unit to what he was out there with in the Washington game. Dooling, JJ, Bogans/Evans, Hedo/Shard, Foyle and he'd be effective as the #2 or 3 option.

I have no problem agreeing to disagree, as long as we agree on the fact that I'm right.

;-)

The determining factor if I'm having a good weekend will be sometime mid-afternoon Sunday!!
