Grant Napear

Post#1 » by Rugged Ron Ron » Sat Apr 19, 2008 12:11 am

:RANTING:

I really cant stand this guy anymore. Either on TV or on his radio show. His "I know everything" attitude really gets on my nerve. I just started listening to Sports 1140 on my drive home from work. The last few days they're been talking about Ron and Theus. A few days ago Theus said he want Ron back. But Napear insisted that Theus does NOT want Ron back and Theus is only saying that to get more value for Ron in a trade. A caller today called in asked if Napear think Theus is lying when he said he want Ron back. Napear answered no. If he doesnt think Theus is lying, why did he said Theus really want Ron gone when Theus just said he want Ron back?

Also, Napear was talking about Ron future here. He said Ron will not opt out, but if he does opt out, the Kings org and fans will be ecstatic and will throw a party to celebrate. If the Kings org is so eager to see Ron gone, why didnt they take the Najera(expiring)/1st deal when it was offered?

Ok. Ranting over. But honestly, we need some new voices commentating the game. After 20 yrs, I think people tired of hearing him.

He's an idiot and lets his bias against guys like Ron(and C-Webb and Bobby when they were here) interfere with what he says about the Kings on his program on the radio. I don't like him.

I just don't listen to his radio show--which leads me to be much less irritated by his radio show then some.

I grew up in Sacramento. I am VERY familiar with Grant(along with having LP for 3 years now). I remember being in 8th grade and calling in about the Fencing on the Olypics just to pull Grant's chain. He was ranting and raving for 10+ minutes about how idiotic we were about wanting to talk fencing on the radio. (of course it was a gag).

His radio show shows his true colors for sure. However, during broadcasts he does a fairly average, or dare I say a pretty decent job, doing the play by play.

He's just an emotional charged person. He hates Ron and I don't know why. He's fairly professional(minus his constant remarks about the amount of $ the players earn) for the most part on television, but it seems that professionalism is fleeting on his radio show for whatever reason, and Jerry handles him VERY well.

He's just an elitist New Yorker.

Aside from the fact that Grant has not been around Sacto for 20 years (Jerry Reynolds has in many capacities and Gary Gerould has always been the radio pbp guy), I can feel your pain. Grant's act is getting old and the Kings can do much better. Kevin Calabro, who has been the Sonics pbp guy for many years, has already said that he will quit before going to Oklahoma City. He is one of the best out there and would be a great addition...if the Maloofs were smart.

Maybe we could send Grant packing and bring him in? The only good thing about Grant is that they made some funny looking t-shirts with his face on them.

OK from what I've found he was here in 1998, which is 10 yrs now. I really hope we can get some fresh new commentators. Im tired of listening to Grant and Jerry. JR is a nice guy but sometime he can sound like the biggest homer. I also agreed, Grant is really good with the play-by-play but everything else he just pisses me off. I dont mind listening to Koz/G-Man/ or Jason Ross.

My mistake. I meant he was a tv commentator since 1998.

I dont really care for him that much either. His personal bias gets to me. And when he likes a player he is always on there jock. I like Jerry and Gary, if they put those two guys together and moved Jim to the radio, I think he does a good job, then I would have no problem with that.

that's something I could TOTALLY agree with you. I'm not a fan of Grant, but I can tolerate him okay. But Calabro is one of the top 5 TV PBP guys. He'd be a COUP for the Maloofs if they landed him

Anyone got the contract figures on grant?

Wow I'm happy to see I'm not the only one that hates Grant. Quick story, a couple of years ago when the Kings were playing the Sonics in the playoffs just before the start of game 5 (I think it was game 5 anyway) Grant said that he believed the team that won that game would win the series. Not 5 seconds later ( and it's important you understand I'm not exaggerating) he said that the game wasn't a must win. How possibly could both of those statements be true? The guy is a waste of oxygen.

That was probably game 4, because I went to it and IIRC when we lost we were down 3-1 so g5 would've been an elimination game. Still that's hilarious though.

He said the same type of garbage in the SA series. My favorite thing he does is someone shoots a 3, and he yells, then they miss and he sounds deflated.

I never liked Grant, but the thing that sent me over the edge is that he commentates for the Oakland Raiders as well. As a 49ers fan, that really ruffles my feathers.

I can't/don't listen to the radio show (don't live in Sac, don't choose to online), but from what I've read on here and him saying things at times during the games... the guy has an agenda against Ron Artest. Quite an unnecessary one, too. Exaggeration, ignorance.

This bias definitely shows up at times during the games, usually in suttle fashion, but they are noticable. If he shared his true feelings at all, he's done as Kings PBP.

Grant also just occasionally (not from game to game, over the course of the season) points out Ron's passing that happens as a consistency, yet does on a regular basis for other players. Not being the analyst doesn't excuse you from crediting somebody. Reynolds, being the color guy, always points out Ron's passing, whether it's in short analysis or short mention of it. Grant, is at least relevant to the latter, and with Ron, that just isn't there.

To sum it up, Grant's just an idiot (relating to Ron).

Also, I understand Grant being into Kevin, but man, he really over does it.

I also think that Grant gives a little too much credit to Spencer. Spencer obviously played fairly well this season, taking into account his lack of playing time, but it seems like I've heard Grant compare him favorably to Tim Duncan on more then one occasion (in fact for awhile it seemed it was happening on a daily basis). Forgive me but I think that's going a little far.

Yeah I like it though because I have family members that are Raider fans and hate Napear(because they're laker fans too actually, so they dislike the Kings). GO 49ERS
