RGM Lottery Summits

Post#1 » by APerna » Sat Apr 19, 2008 6:24 pm

Hey posters,

First of all, I'm sorry that your team wasn't able to make the playoffs. You know I'm in the same boat, so I definitely identify with you. I am looking to put together NBA Summits for the fourteen Lottery teams as the playoffs get underway...that should keep things interesting for all parties...

I put together a ton of these on the NFL forums heading into next weekend's draft and they have been wildly successful. I hope for the same here, and I know the population of these boards will lend itself to many responses.

Editor Chris Reina and I have put together these seven question for you all to answer, with the best answers making it into posted pieces on our main page. The only thing that I ask is that you please limit your responses to two sentences per question. Please try your best to heed that request, it makes the Summits easier to read and quicker to put together.

Thanks gang, and best of luck in the Lottery.

1. What could the team have done different to make the playoffs?

"If Jack makes that shot, the game is over." - Tommy Heinsohn after Jarrett Jack missed a shot at the buzzer of a 105-105 game between the Celtics and Pacers.

1. What could the team have done different to make the playoffs?

We could've kept Kidd and probably would've had another 1st-2nd round exit. Post-Kidd, I'd say a consistent shooter to spread the opposing defense.

1. We could have gave the contract extension to Kidd and we probably could have made it to the playoffs and lost in the first or second round.

2. We had good finsihers on the fast break, and good penetration.

3. JOSH BOONE, was supposed to be a scrub or rotation player, and he turned out to be our most consistent and effective big guy.

4. Marcus Williams was horrible this year.

5. I'm always confident in Thorn he isnt going to make a rash decision that will hurt our franchise.

6. A shooter off the bench, and a tough big man who will bang inside.

7. We need a wing. I like Gallinnari, Batum, and with the Mavs pick CDR, brandon rush, or Jason Thomson and even possibly Dorsey

I Agree with everything you said except for 6 and 7.

We definitely need a shooter or a wingman way more than we do ANOTHER bigman. We have plenty already as is and by drafting a PF/C it'll be wasting the pick IMO since he'll probably see little to no playing time with Williams, Boone, Swift and Krstic(which i'm sure will be signed on a qualifying offer).

I'd try and move up to get Eric Gordon or Danilo Gallinari.

Oh I know our assortment of bigmen. But none of them command even an occasional double. I'm not saying Jordan will fix that, but I don't see Gallinari or Gordon falling to us.

1. We could have fired Lawrence Frank. Anybody with even the slightest name recognition as a head coach would have been a better option. We also could have made a better effort to land a premier big man.

2. Vince Carter's playmaking abilities, Devin Harris' one man fast break and Richard Jefferson's scoring. Also, towards the end of the season, holding down our homecourt versus quality competition.

3. Josh Boone, hands down. If he was given 32-40 minutes a game all season he would have easily averaged a double double. He also stepped up his shot blocking at the end of the season.

4. Marcus Williams or Nenad Krstic. I thought Marcus especially was going to have a breakout year, and although not as bad as some make him out to be, he was quite disappointing. Krstic was just terrible, although he was never given many minutes. It must be noted that both were coming off injuries and surgery.

5. I am always confident in Rod Thorn and the rest of the front office, although they need to stop with the band-aid one year MLE signings and get a true impact free agent with the MLE.

6. A true outside shooter that can stretch a defense, but also create his own shot and a dominant post scoring big man.

7. I am trying to be semi-realistic, so in this order: Eric Gordon, Danilo Gallinari, Kevin Love or Russell Westbrook.
I am a firm believer that Love will be this years steal of the draft, and will turn into, at worst, a Brad Miller type with a much better post game.

Not "implement" a new offense and take the ball out of VC's hands so much. Acquired a legit PF/C last year or before the deadline. Kept Kidd.
