How many black coaches are in the NBA?

Post#1 » by Farsi Man » Sat Apr 19, 2008 6:01 pm

Just wondering because there are alot of black vs black coaches in this years playoffs.

Doc Rivers vs Mike Woodson
Mike Brown vs Eddie Jordan
Avery Johnson vs Byron Scott

But then there's always Maurice Cheeks and the Raptors coach (can't remember his name). And that's just the playoffs.

Black coaches are something that people don't even seem to notice in the NBA.

It's because most of the league is players of color.

Unfortunately it's sadly why the popularity of the NBA has declined.

Question: Are any of the black coaches in the NBA not former NBA players?

Not that I know of. Almost all, (if not all) black coaches/commentators that I've ever seen are former players.

Rivers, Thomas, Cheekes, Mitchell
Brown
Woodson, Vincent, Jordan
McMillan
Theus
Johnson, Scott

So that's 12. At some point a couple of years ago there were I think 17 black coaches.

It's no coincidence that the popularity of the NFL matches the fact that the glory position in football remains all white.

I guarantee you that if things start to change you will see the popularity of that league decline.

It's the sad reality. Yeah we're in 2008 but you have idiots who are still offended by things like a woman calling a game and a press and media that brainwashes people into thinking that white players aren't athletic and black players don't work hard

I think he means the QB position.

Eh whatever I don't even like football it's just missed pass after commercial after missed pass then a caught pass every once in a while or a player running into a crowd and gaining 2 yards.
