The lottery - what we're up against

Post#1 » by Smills91 » Sat Apr 19, 2008 3:38 am

I think we need to break down each team and their needs and probably look that'll give us a clearer look at what'll be available at #12.

Beasley/Rose are options 1a/1b depending on who gets which pick.

1 Miami - Rose/Beasley/Bayless/Lopez

The Heat need a PG more than anything else. However I don't see them passing on Bayless if they get the #2 pick and ROse is off the board. Lopez is their pick in the event they slip to the #4 position.

2 Seattle - Rose/Beasley/Bayless/Mayo/Gordon

The Sonics need to address their backcourt more than anything, specifically the PG position. Rose is their guy as well, but if they slip then I see Bayless/Mayo/GOrdon as being the options in the 3-5 range

3 Minnesota - Rose/Beasley/Bayless/Lopez/Jordan/Kevin Love

I mean the top 3 picks are pretty much set for these teams, it gets trickier if they slip and the Wolves are a tough read due to the fact they are so young and really just need the BPA. I thinkl they're prefer to address the 1/5/3 positions and in that order.

4 Grizzlies - Beasley/Rose/Lopez/Jordan/Love/Randolph/Speights

They HAVE to go big. Go big or go home. With Conley/Lowry/Crittenten on the roster the ONLY exception to go small is Rose. Otherwise they'll take a look at one of the 'bigs' in the draft.

5 Knicks - Rose/Beasley/Bayless/Mayo/Lopez/Gordon/Love/Randolph

Whare do you begin with this mess of a franchise? BPA all the way. The knicks are a mess and just need talent infusion.

6 Clippers - Rose/Beasley/Bayless/Lopez/Mayo/Gordon/Love/Augustin/Randolph

Really the only set spots on the Clippers are the spots of Thornton/Kaman. The rest is up for grabs. I say the Clips go for BPA as well, especially at the 1/2/4 spots(and in that order)

7 Bucks -
Beasley/Rose/Bayless/Mayo/Love/Gallinari/Randolph/Gordon/Greene/Batum

Wow, what's up with this team? IMO they should be MUCH better than they are ESPECIALLY in the East. They need that three spot shored up more than anything, perhaps some help at the 1?

8 Bobcats - Rose/Beasley/Lopez/Bayless/Mayo/Jordan/Love/Augustin/Speights/Hibbert/McGee

The Bobcats seem to have the biggest holes to fill at the 1 and 5(like most other teams) I think they're pretty much set at the 2/3/4 positions for now.

9 Bulls - Rose/Beasley/Lopez/Bayless/Mayo/Jordan/Augustin/Speights/Hibbert/Gordon/McGee

The Bulls again are looking at the 1 and 5 spots. Also the 2 position could be a necessary fill if they let ben gordon go.

10 Nets - Beasley/Rose/Lopez/Bayless/Mayo/Jordan/Randolph/Gallinari/Speights/Love/Greene/McGee/Hibbert

The nets appear to be in rebuild mode, but still have two pricey vets in VC and RJ on their roster still. While either may be dealt the Nets seem to have the biggest needs at the 4 and 5 spots.

11 Pacers -
Rose/Beasley/Bayless/Mayo/Gordon/Lopez/Love/Jordan/Augustin/Randolph/Westbrook/Budinger/Speights/McGee

Pacers are set at the 3 and probably the 4. Most of all they want to get more athletic and infuse talent. I think their priorities would be the 1/2/5/4/3 in that order.

12 Kings -
Rose/Beasley/Bayless/Mayo/Lopez/Love/Westbrook/Speights/Gallinari/Randolph/Gordon/Arthur/Augustin/Collison/Batum

Just throwing things out there, I'm sure there will be MUCH discrepency there.

So the way I see it

1) Derrick Rose
2) Michael Beasley
3) Jerryd Bayless
4) Brooke Lopez
5) OJ Mayo
6) Eric Gordon
7) Anthony Randolph
8) DeAndre Jordan
9) DJ Augustin
10) Kevin Love
11) Eric Gordon
12) Russell Westbrook/Mareese Speights/Danilo Gallinari/Darrell Arthur/Darren Collison

One of those 5 players will most likely be the Kings pick.

That how I can see it going down if the lottery were set and if it were happening TODAY.

I'm going to have to disagree a little bit here.

Miami- Rose, I think your right on this one especially if they keep marion.

Seattle-Beasley by default.

Minnisota- Bayless, because they aren't confident in Foye

Grizzles- Lopez, I think your right that they will go with a big but just the wrong big

Knicks- Mayo, I just don't think they can afford to pass up the star power. they need some positive attention and mayo will get them that.

Clippers- Gordon, he's just BPA and fits a need

Bucks- Gallanari, they need to much help at the wings to not go with a guy with this much potential.

Bobcats- Love, their biggest needs are a big and a pg however you got the big wrong they need a PF because oakfore likes to play C and has been doing well their. Love gives them everything they need out of the PF spot.

Bulls- Augustine, the bulls go PG because hinrich just isn't good enough they have plenty of talent at the wings and have invested several good picks recently in Bigs that they have yet to fully develop.

Nets- Randolph, they are in rebuild mode and will likely move either Carter or Jefferson this summer. Randolph gives them a great wing that could be become a Big just depends on how his body develops.

Pacers-Jordan, Pacers are probably going to be looking to trade oneal and they still have a few years committed to tinsley so I think they may wait another year on the PG but Jordan would be the Perfect fit for them as a young developing Big.

Kings have in our range several options
Arthur
Westbrook
Speights
Batum
Greene
McGee

I personally either want to get Arthur or Westbrook and am leaning towards westbrook. There's just somethign special about the kid.

I also love Arthurs game but he scares me a little bit. I think he could turn into a guy like Kurt Thomas and never reach his full potential. I just think it will be easier for westbrook to reach his potential.

Patrick O'Bryant?

McGee is way more athletic and a better shooter than O'bryant ever was. I really think McGee's potential is a KG type player(but less D). He has that much POTENTIAL. O'bryant never did. McGee is more of a PF IMO.

I wouldn't mind Arthur at 12 but I would much rather have Speights or Batum. I said this about Spencer Hawes last year and I'll say it about Galinari this year. If he is there when we pick I think Petrie takes him.

To be honest i think this is a very good and deep draft and will be happy with a variety of players if that's who we pick.

I would be happy if we picked any of the top guys in our range.
Westbrook
Speights
Arthur
McGee
Gallanari -if he falls
Augustine

each of these guys could really bring something special to our team, and as long as these are the level of guys that petrie is getting to pick from and don't really se how we can go wrong.

Westbrook and Anthony Randolph are in higher demand then Augustine and Love.

My thoughts are we go after a PG in the draft. Petrie just doesn't leave himself vulnerable like that(with NO starting PG under contract). He might take a big or another player if someone drops, but I think the talent level is pretty comparable across the board from 6-15 range.

With that said:
Westbrook
Collison
Augustin

are the top tiered PG's that'll potentially be there at 12

Speights
Love
Arthur

are probably the best PF that'll potentially be there at 12.

I really think one of those 6 players will be our pick in the 12 to (heaven forbid) 14 range.

I'm just glad that we'll have good options. Regardless of who gets picked ahead of us, I think at least a few guys will be available that I'm happy with.

If we win this lottery then we will deserve it for sure because we have just had so much bad luck over the years.
