Thanks for the words of advice re/ the piano. My wife wants to learn how to play and we don't have lots of space in the current house so that's why I'm shooting for an upright. We're projecting another move and house upgrade in 4 or 5 years so that's when we'll open the wallet for a baby grand. That will give us time to see if she/me/or one of the kids will actually be playing regularly.

That sounds pretty scary but you were all over it. I'm just getting to the point where I need to childproof the house. Little guy is crawling and pulling himself up on everything now.

All I see in my area via craigslist is a kimball, baldwin, wurlitzer, melbourne & two schafer & sons. Anything you see there that you think might be worth a peek...........or meh? I might have to look at eugene's listings.

EDIT: I have till mid June for the purchase so I'm willing to wait for something better if you guys don't see anything worth looking at.

Out of those, my attention went to Baldwin and Wurlitzer. I have little first hand experience with those brands, but I believe that the Kimball and Schafer & Sons might be spinets (smaller body, smaller tone) as opposed to upright pianos (not a huge difference in size but probably not in price either). I've never heard of Melbourne before.

Baldwins are usually good. Wurlitzer pianos are made by Baldwin, I believe. Wurlitzers electric pianos are legendary (supertramp) and effing awesome sounding but I have no first hand experience with their acoustics. I would guess that they're OK, since Baldwins are and since their retro electric pianos were amazing.

I have one - love that thing. I like Wurly better than Rhodes.

They're awesome when tuned correctly. Played one on a record a few years back. Used to have a Suitcase MKII Rhodes and a Hohner D6, back in the day. Had to sell both to buy modules needed to go on a big tour.

Can't wait until I have my own real home studio one day. On the wish list: MIDI Grand (for composing purposes), Rhodes (school model w 15' speakers, before Fender bought the company), Wurly, D6, Memory Moog, Taurus etc...

I personally like Baldwin's the most out of the one that you listed, but you have to actually play them before investing several thousand dollars. I don't know if you play at all but go with a friend who is a musician if you are in doubt. Piano's are like cars... there are some lemons out there if you are not careful.

Woooooo! I turned 18 yesterday. Had about 20 people over and played RockBand for a good 9 hours.

Good times. Now, hopefully this summer/next season I can meet up with you guys in LA and check out a Laker game or two.

thanks for the words regarding the piano. i've got someone to go with me to check the pianos out.............i play bass so that's not going to cut it. i also found a yamaha for sale so i'll go check out the baldwin and yamaha this weekend.

I'm foaming at the mouth for a Moog, and I have absolutely no need for one. Right now I have a D6 Clav, Hammond C3/Les, Wurly, and a Hammond XB-2 and Roland on the rare occasions I play out. Amp I have is a monster, made by a company called motion sound. Check this thingout. It's so damn convenient and really sounds fat.

Side note, the tracks you sent me a while back were really good....you're a very talented dude. There was a point where I thought about getting into scoring. Musically, my mind thinks that way as far as layers and production, melody, counter-melody, etc....never did. Regret it.
