If we factor in health, i'll go with Bogut.

Give me Okafor. I really believe that he's being very poorly used in Charlotte, and would put up better numbers elsewhere. Also, I know Okafor is perceived as an injury risk, but he played more games than Bogut this year (Okafor played all 82, Bogut played 78 ) and last year (Okafor played 67, Bogut played 66). Since Okafor lost the weight he put on for 05/06 he's been a pretty healthy player, I don't think injuries are a big issue for him anymore.

Bogut, you can teach defense...

I take Okafor because he's a better rebounder and defender and he's also being dramatically misused in Charlotte's "offensive system."

Bogut is a much better passer but a crappy FT shooter... but no worse than Okafor, I suppose (though Oak has regressed a bit there).

As far as health is concerned, I don't see an issue. Okafor just played an 82-game season, has another 70+ game season and they both have a 67-game season. Bogut has played one fewer season and doesn't have the one injury-plagued year, so you can maybe make a weak health argument but it won't hold much water.

Emeka Okafor. Put him on a team with PG with 1/4 brain and he will be a beast.

Another good addition to that comment would be "and a coach who isn't a total nutter," since Okafor is now 0/2 at finding a coach with a brain. Obviously, that's not actually his fault but he's now experienced an unconscionable lack of coaching assistance.

Bogut for my team.

Bogut
Bosh
Moon
Artest
Calderon

That would be a sick team.

I'll take Okafor, I think if he is used right he will be a better offensive player still, and he's a significantly better defender already IMO.

Agreed, Emeka Okafor is great defensive PF and elite shot blocker, and hes coming along offensively. he needs better go-to move in post than old-fashioned hook and stop putting ball on the floor in the post.

i take Okafor, because i think he will flourish if put in the right system.

For the record, the statistics on the season show Bogut as being the better defender despite being on a worse defensive team. Given that, and the fact that Bogut was good for 16 and 11 post January 1st (When the Bucks decided to give him the ball), and he's two years younger I'll take him.

Okafor is a better defender, and as everyone knows good defenders down low are hard to find. And like most people have said it seems like his offensive skills are being used strangely in Charlotte.

However even in college he wasn't a dominant scorer even though he was bigger and more athletic then everyone.

Bogut has shown the ability to score consistently, has really improved his shot blocking and more importantly his defense, and has a better understanding of the game I believe.

I'll take Bogs.

What statistics?

The Bucks were +1.9 on defense with him, they gave up more points per 100 possessions with him on the court, and Okafor was -1.1. That's a 3.0 swing between the two, Okafor was considerably more effective. He gave up a higher Opp iFG% than Okafor by 3%, his DRTG was three points higher than Okafor's (which is bad)... he had four fewer defensive win shares...

I'm curious, what stat shows that he was better besides Opp PER?

I wonder where everyones getting the idea that Okafor on another team would be a good offensive player.. Nothing from watching him tells me that at all.. He's so mechanical, doesn't have a solid post move, and can't shoot 5 feet away from the rim.. I just don't see him ever getting over 15ppg in his career.. He's a good defensive player, but to me Bogut is just as good.

Okafor with 2 more shots per game would be a minimum 16 ppg player and he's already BEEN a 15 ppg player in his career before, which suggests that it's not a huge stretch for him to score just a little more than that.

Yeah, he's not a brilliantly fluid player on offense but he improves every year, especially since he's been spending time with Olajuwon the last few summers. Of note is that he's shooting an eFG% on jumpers of roughly 37%, which is quite near to very respectable for a mid-range shooter.

He doesn't take a lot of them but that's on account of his limited usage rate, which is a function of bad point guards and bad coaching. He does a really good job of getting to the point-blank zone right around the rim, where he finishes over 60% of the time, which is awesome.

Interesting that a lot of people are saying that Okafor if used better would be the better player. Bogut was barely an afterthought for his first 2 and a half seasons in the league, Stott's offense just didn't give him the ball anywhere near scoring position and LK's for the first half of this season was no better. LK then came out in early January and said he'd made a mistake and was going to go to Bogut more, and from that point on Bogut averaged 16/10.5/3/1.8 blocks in 48 games. And that with Redd and Mo Williams shooting the thing every chance they got.
Bogut is younger, more adept offensively, very solid defensively and has a very high basketball iq. Bogut for me, pretty easily.
