Question about

Post#1 » by geeman » Mon Apr 21, 2008 5:12 pm

This is a salary cap question? Josh Childress has a Qualifying offer of 4.8mil. If we were to resign him to a 4-year 30-mil contract, would the first year (2008-2009) base salary
Be the 4.8mil or the first year of the 30mil contract?

No. The qualifying offer is what you must minimally offer as a 1 year deal to maintain rights to match another offer he gets. Childress would have the right to sign that 1 year offer and become an unrestricted free agent if he chooses.

The signed salary is the signed salary. It could be front-loaded like Kirk Hinrich or our own Speedy Claxton and decrease each year or it could be a standard escalation like Joe Johnson's deal or it could be even amount like Zaza Pachulia. Given the cap situation I would expect the contract to be backloaded a bit.

I say we shouldn't even worry about matching anything for Chill. Let him go.

I think we'll sing him, but I was just using him as a example.

Thx evildallas for clearing up that cap issue for me.

No.

The QO is a 1 year contract. Any other contract would be completely different from the QO.

Naw geeman, I wasn't trying to bash your comment. I just wanted to make it clear that I believe Smoove should be the 1st signing, and then I believe we should worry about extending Marvin, because I think he could become way better than people is treating him on this forum. Sad, but I guess people can't get off of CP3 not being draft.
