I'm not sure I totally agree with this. I think we need a man defender more than a help one. We need someone to guard the Duncan's, Yao's, Howard's, etc. of the NBA so that Al doesn't need to waste as much energy or fouls on the defensive end.
I've actually thought for a while that we should go after Brown. If similar contracts, I might even sign him`ahead of Craig Smith.
Whilst it would be nice to have someone who could give Al a rest on the defensive end I don't see it as anywhere near as important as having someone to deter everyone in the League driving to the hoop after blowing past our guards.
Al holds his own defensively against guys like Yao,Howard and Duncan becuase he can cope with Post up players, it is the more athletic pick and roll guys he struggles against more.
Getting a more athletic help defender type in who can protect the rim would be a much more useful piece for the team IMO than just another big body to bang.

I have not read anything bad about his work ethic.
I haven't watched him play much but knew what I have read gave me the impression he wasn't motivated. Liking to do research I googled "Kwame Brown" and "poor work ethic" and it came up with over 200 articles. I only read the first one but it gave me plenty of fuel to believe it is so....or at least was when the first article was posted two years ago come my birthday.
All of the articles will have those words in them but since many articles cover a lot of information "poor work ethic" written in the article might not all have been about him, but I'm betting a fair share were. This article is interesting reading and I am quoting a paragraph from the article.
Now, not only is Kwame Brown MIA, the team doesn't even need him to win the war.............Meanwhile, Brown -- now a 7-foot, 23-year-old who's chiseled like a monument -- won't be in uniform, won't even be in the building. He's suspended for the remainder of the season: too many excuses, too much pouting, two missed workouts and a lame bout of stomach sickness. Wizards management won't even talk about him anymore.

I feel bad for the guy. No one ever really gave him a chance, and by the time he did get one, his confidence had already been shot to zero. How would you like it if you were mentally dismantled on a daily basis at the age of 18 by the best player to ever play the game? His success (or failure, I should say) was determined the moment he stepped onto the court in Washington.
With that in mind, I don't know if I want him. Seems like he's damaged goods. I'd only want him if we had a very wise, understanding coach who would really work with him and knew how to give him positive reinforcement. So raise your hand if you think Wittman's that kind of coach...

.....right....
The guy needs a mentor, and he never got one.
