If not Avery, then who?

Post#1 » by your_dallas_mavericks » Mon Apr 21, 2008 1:54 pm

Paul Westphal?
Rick Carlisle?
Jeff Van Gundy?
An up and coming coach?
A hot college coach?

Who can we get in here to take us to the next level at Head Coach?

This is not a poll, it's a discussion.
If we could just close games with Luka, Kyrie, Green, Maxi, and Wood that'd be great...

Coach K may be looking for new challenges. He coaches the olympic team and he deals with NBA players all the time there. He's a student of the game, he understands the fine nuances of it. His coaching style would translate over to the pros seamlessly. How do we get him to leave Duke? This is a school that would probably never fire him. No head coach in the NBA stays in one place forever anymore except for maybe Jerry Sloan. I dunno, maybe it could be done. Bring in Coach K, give him nearly everything he wants and let him do his thing and stay outta the way Cuban!

Coach K is a unrealistic option... I wouldnt mind having Del Harris coach the team though, if he was interested.

Del would be great about 10 years ago. He's up there in age. I agree that Coach K could be unrealistic. Del has a plethera of basketball knowledge. Anyone ever by his book on the zone defense? It was phenomenal...

Bob Knight is available. But he would have to have experienced NBA assistants. At least he would have thrown a chair the other night.

I know this is suggestion is said with sarcasm but there is no way Coach Knight goes to the NBA. (Trust me I'd know.)

Isiah Thomas isn't coaching anymore. He might welcome a new environment since Johnson isn't working out for you.

If Mark Cuban becomes coach, I got 70 +/- 3 on the ejections.

Nah, it's just we beat the coach thing out like 15 times already. Now is the time to talk playoffs, not coaching change.

I agree, let's table this discussion until after the playoffs.

Looks like we won't have to wait long to discuss it...

I'm not really sure what Avery is thinking at the moment. My support for Avery is almost at it's ending point, as I can't seem to grasp what he's doing, and he's really hurting his team. I realize he doesn't have the weapons he once had on the bench, but I really thought he was wiser, and yet he's going to make Mark's decision an easy one if this continues.
