I think POB will return next season. I'm not surprised if any of the following players will be gone: Barnes, MP, Watson, Baron, Nelly, and even AH.

Someone please bump this thread again once POB is/is not traded. Help yourself with a virtual slap on my face.

POB will return next season but IT won't be with the Warriors...That's for sure.

POB can not be traded except as a sign & trade after July 15 - but that hardly seems necessary. He will not command more than half the MLE from any team.

I cant see him returning to the W's at all. Pietrus may, but not POB

The only way that POB would possibly return (and even then it is very unlikely) is if Nellie's gone somehow (which is even more unlikely).

I disagree with you. I think the comments that Pietrus has made about his situation and the hard ball the Warriors played with him, makes it much more unlikely that he will return to the Warriors. He didn't handle the whole FA situation very well and his play really suffered because of it. I think not trading him was one of the biggest mistakes that the Warrriors made last season. I firmly believe he cost the Warriors wins because of his attitude and his poor play.

POB isn't going to command a lot of attention and may end up signing a year contract with the Warriors because of it.

The only thing that makes it seem at all like a remote possibility is the fact that Patrick was sitting with the bench at Warrior home games while he was assigned to D league. For some reason, he was being kept in the group. Also, bringing Pat back up from D league, but still not playing him made no sense if he was definitively being renounced.

I mean I guess you can pull the "we're paying you, so we will sit you on our bench in street clothes if we want to" card, but more likely, his D league stint opened eyes. Maybe someome else in the org realizes that he will have some use and value after Nellie is gone, so maybe there is a play being made to retain him. It's kind of hard to find any particular benefit to the Warriors for shutting down his productive D league season unless we had some interest in his future.

Or we could just be mean bastards.

not picking up pob's option was irresponsible. on the open market, a 7'er that has demonstrated potential (albeit d-league), and is very skilled should command enough curiosity to get at least what he would've made on the team option gs declined. it's irresponsible because he has the skill that they'll again be seeking though the draft or free agency (where they'd likely have to overpay). not getting his bird rights made absolutely zero sense. whether they play him or not, i'll be bold enough to say the kid is not a worthless scrub. he's was an asset on or off the court & now he's just untapped potential that may be uncovered elsewhere.

offer him something long term & i can see him consider staying, knowing that nellie's on his last leg. pob as a warrior will depend on nellie as coach.

Something doesn't add up, between the vocal bashing, actively neutering of his potential trade value, and the weird end of season call up. It really does come off like he's being hidden somehow for our benefit. Why not jsut let him play in Bakersfield to end his successful D league season? How did we benefit from putting him back in streets? The only consistent benefit to the Warriors from this chain of events is that competing offers are likely to be lower than his rookie contract.

Maybe this was just about cutting his pay? We are one of the cheapest front offices in the league these days.

Letting POB go will make us look dump for decades. His value is greater than half of our roster. If we somehow let him slip away, I could see SA pick him up and turn him into Duncan's subordinate. Like LF75, I'm rooting "At the POB Upside Fan Club building located on the corner of Robert Parish Ave and Bust Street." If we let him go, there will be a Robert Parish version 2.0, but in San Antonio not Boston. Imagining him playing for the Spurs is enough to make me shed a tear.

We need to keep him... Javale McGee is shooting up draft charts and he looks roughly the same (although better)... and we're just going to handaway a lottery talent?

Some team is going to get very lucky... even if POB fails, its just like swinging and missing on a draft pick that was literally handed to them...

There is absolutely NO justification for how this all went down... and despite gswlego's little rant, the 1st line is true - Letting POB go makes us look stupid.

The only consistant thing about the end of the year call up and finishing with 2 games in street clothes is the way he's been treated since he got here.

He has to REALLY WANT to be here in order to resign.

There are plenty of teams I can think of off the top of my head who could be interested in a 7 footer with skills.

MINNESOTA: Jefferson doesn't want to play center. Obee, Jeff, and either Gomes or Smith is a nice young front line.

CLIPPERS: Kaman needs a back-up and Obee's played his best games against the Clips.

MEMPHIS: Milicic is not enough along with an undersized Warrick. They need more young and affordable beef.

ATLANTA: The really need center help.

He's not coming back as long as Nellie is here.

Whether you like POB or not, I don't see how you can say McGee is roughly the same. I guess if you limit it to being 7 feet tall and having a jumper (or supposedly having a jumper in POB's case), then ok. But aside from that they are nothing alike.

Yeah, on the front end, Nellie just thought he was crap. No arguing that, but as time goes on, circumstances change and strategies evolve. At some point after Webber & Mbenga flopped, somone may have realized that Nellie made a mistake in throwing this guy in the dumpster. I'm thinking something changed after Patrick asked to go down to D league so that he could play. I think maybe he did impress some folks who have to try to win games after Nellie retires.

I guess I'm thinking more of a salvage strategy than a master plan. I'm just trying to figure out how some of these decisions could have been envisioned to hold benefit for the team. I'm trying to give the management credit for not being complete muppets.

I remember last summer you didnt even know Pat was a over 80% free throw shooter...You were talking about his terrible form..He's got great form for a big man with that crazy wingspan..You never gave him a chance..Makes me sad :cry:

I don't want to beat this already dead horse again and again in hell, but remember that we got Jackson, Harrington, and an "Euro Jordan" for Ike Diogu, MD, and TM. Letting POB go for nothing is foolish. We have to keep him and play him until he crawls and then trade him for LeBron James (/joke).
