Not having him will be extremely tough against the likes of the Suns, Spurs or Celtics (if we even make it that far).
Hell it would be nice to have him of Utah, but we need to focus on Denver before I think down the road.

i had a feeling when the Lakers kept saying it wasnt major. Cuz the way the kid reacted when he went down made it seem real bad. I hope it doesnt effect him long term more importantly. I think the medical staff of the Lakers needs to be looked into...
Greatest comment I've ever received.

So my suspicions have been confirmed. There's been something weird about the way this kept dragging on without any definitive answers coming from the team. Now we know -- this was a lot more serious than anyone initially let on.
At this stage, I could care less about this season. I'm far more concerned about the fact that Andrew has had two major knee injuries -- one on each, if I'm not mistaken -- before 21.
I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that he's not one of those injury-prone athletes, a la Grant Hill, who can't stay healthy. What a waste of talent that would be.

People are easily fooled. The Lakers is probably the most secretive organization in the NBA. NO ONE outside of Mitch and Phil had a slight clue that we were gunning for Pau Gasol. NO ONE. Other teams didn't know what hit them. I really do believe that this is all strategic planning, and that Bynum is healthy but Phil is making it sound really REALLY bad so the opposing teams will not include him on their game plan.

the only secretive thing about this is how long it took to admit bynum's return was highly doubtful. i really don't agree with your assessment that the lakers are the most secretive organization in the nba. if any organization is known for airing their dirty laundry in public, its the lakers.

that really came about in the late 90s & 00s. it's unfortunate because before that time the lakers were known for keeping/dealing with everything on the inside.

Yeah, that's it!!!

If he's healthy, why isn't he playing?

If Bynum is able to practice then I can see them saving him for 2 reasons
1) they can bring him back at 100%; Bynum would definitely be rusty if he came back after missing 3 months and could possibly mess up team chemistry... If he was able to work up to 100% in practice he could possibly be integrated with no hiccups
2) Phoenix/San Antonio cant scout Gasol/Bynum if they havent played together... The later we bring him back the less they have a chance to see how Bynum/Gasol work together and will be used together
I know this is very unlikely... but I'm staying optimistic... Its possible I guess?

In the same way it's possible that I might find a bag filled with money on my way out to the car after work. It could happen. But I'd bet my life's savings that we won't see Andrew in uniform for the rest of the year. I can guarantee you that it's not some silly strategic gambit aimed at throwing future opponents off balance. Really, how much impact would that have?

Quote from the BSPN article
So he hasnt tested the knee before?
But Bynum didn't seem like a full member of the team. He wore a white T-shirt, not a reversible purple-and-gold practice jersey. Afterward he got his knee wrapped by his personal trainer, Sean Zarzana, not one of the many members of the Lakers' deep training staff. Then, as reporters were cleared out of the practice gym, Bynum and Zarzana went to work out in what Bynum called the "first test" of his knee.
So he hasnt tested the knee before?

Reporters have probably asked Phil a million times when he's coming back and he is sick of hearing that question so he gives them the honest answer which is that he's not hopeful of his return. Better to play it safe than to promise something that might not happen.
Until it's announced that he's not coming back at all this season, it's just talk to me. I'll remain hopeful until I know for sure. Stunt/smokescreen? No effing way.
