Time to get a Brand name

Post#1 » by Da_Kidd » Tue Apr 22, 2008 3:40 pm

PF Elton Brand

for

C Josh Boone
PF Stromile Swift
SF Keith Van Horn
PG Marcus Williams
Dallas' 1st round pick

TRADE ACCEPTED - Trade ID #4568165

Time for a shake-up and I think the time to nab Brand is now while he is coming off a major injury. He has shown that he can still be serviceable after coming back from that injury.

This trade looks like a no brainer.

Only issues: Will Brand be healthy? what would our salary be? Would be be able to able to get some FA?

I preffer this then all the RJ trades.

The Boone add-on is my only disagreement with this trade idea. I would like to keep RJ as well but like SIC mentioned can we sign other players.

if we did this trade we would be legit contenders to make it to the finals.. as long as we drafted an impact player with our pick

Thorn would have to work his magic with Mid level, the trade exceptions and those draft picks.

What would happne to Diop, Krstic, armstrong and Boki?

I would say Diop and Boki would be priority. Depending on what Krstic is offered he might be gone.

Although that package allows us to keep RJ. You still need to sign supporting players. At this point we are giving up our best big man in Boone and the rest of the bigs can go elsewhere via FA.

The deal stops us from getting a very good player with trading the dallas pick.

Instead of looking at Jordan, Mayo or Westbrook we would take the best player available. I rather draft a need.

Im OK with Boki leaving I rather have Pietrus who is a better defender. The Frontcourt rotation should be Diop, Krstic, Boone and Brand.

i do this trade in a heartbeat, with Brand, RJ, Carter, and Harris we could throw a corpse in there at the 5 and still do damage.

Maybe RJ would actually decide to defend too!

id rather give up krstic + diop or either than give up firggin baboon!

krstic can be a huge part of the trade and they might bite on him being apart of the deal.

well you can do a sign + trade with elton brand and i think hes a restricted FA?

u guys are being ridiculous... we are talking bout ELTON BRAND an allstar the type of player that we have been missing since kenyon left 20 and 10 guy. and you guys are complaining that we are giving up a guywho will be a starter on bad teams or a role player on good ones for his career in JOSH BOONe... as Mark Jackson would say YOURE BETTER THAN THAT nets fans

the player we get from dallas this year most likely will not be an impact player for us next season

I'd put Sean Williams in there instead of Boone.

Hell, I'd willingly give up BOTH S Williams and Boone if Brand was the prize.

I just don't agree with this.

Boone is already proving he will be a double double guy given 32-40 mpg.
He has started to really show his shot blocking ability off the weakside as well.
His B Ball IQ seems a lot higher, and his form on his jumpshot and freethrows is quite good, which tends to lead you to believe he will eventually shoot about 70% from the line and have a reliable jumper from maybe 14 feet in.
He has very good hands as well, although he has had a problem finishing reliably, but I feel that will eventualy change too.
Looks like he can become a very good passer, although so does Sean.

Sean is a very impressive athlete with good length, major shot blocking abilities and a good finisher.
He runs the floor pretty well.
Then on the other hand he has herroundus coordination, is way too skinny, despite his impressive wingspan not a very good man defender, he has no handle, his jumpshot isn't any good either and just looks overmanned at times.
I understand he was a rookie, but it was only Boone's 2nd season and he made major strides.

I see no reason Boone doesn't keep improving at a high rate for atleast a few more years before he basicly tops out.
In other words Boone is way ahead of the curve and still has a lot of room for improvement and a lot of potential himself.
Just think he will be the much better player overall, and he is the much better player right now.

If you did get Brand in this trade, you really couldn't reliably start Sean next to him and get very good results for a whole season, where as Boone is the perfect complement to Brand night in and night out, with Krstic coming off the bench.

VC4P, Your thoughts are valid , However you need to understand that because of Boone's development his trade value is sky high. I don't wanna give up Boone but if Brand was the carrot then you gotta say yes. Right now SWILL has more untapped potential. We don't know if he will take off or become another stro. Sorry to all those stro lovers out there.
So if i'm Thorn I would have to see what i could get for Boone if Brand is the upgrade i gotta pull the trigger.
If i was Thorn, my first priority wouldn't be trading Boone or trying to get Brand. It would be talkin Rattner into spending some coin and firing Frank!! but that's for another thread
Can Frank coach the kids?

First off, that trade will not land us Brand.

Second, what's with all this Boone love? I mean he's a nice player, but that's it. I mean what is his game? He grabs a ton of boards and scores his points off put-backs or alley-oops. Sean has already shown that he has tons more potential that Boone will have.

By tons more potential, do you mean cool highlight reel dunks?

I don't get it.

I have nothing against Sean Williams.

I just think Boone is becoming a big time player. He doesn't have and probrably never will have the post game to become a top 4/5, but a hell of a player regardless.
