Nice to see him get some recognition for his defensive play this season. Garnett was the obvious choice, and well deserved.

7 people voting Bowen after this season is even worse IMO.

I actually thought Bruce was pretty solid. He's still about as good as it gets in terms of perimeter defense. I like him better than Battier and Kobe.

Bowen has taken a significant step back this season IMO, and should not be close to the 4th place finish he received. Also, Bowen getting voted over Duncan is a huge insult to Timmy just basing it off their play this season.

Bowen has been a great defender for a long time, but this season he hasn't been top 4.

Yeah, Bowen's defense has slipped up a bit, nice to see Kobe finishing in the top 5 in voting, he was great defensively all year.

Agree about Duncan -- how he's never won this award is beyond me -- but disagree about Bowen. I'd still take him over Battier or Kobe in terms of pure stopping ability. He might have slipped this year, but that just shows you how good he was to begin with.

as long as it wasn't a first place vote, what's wrong with that? (this is a serious question...i respect your knowledge of the game)

he led the league in steals, which means that he is very adept at controlling the passing lanes around the perimeter. his man to man defense though...i feel like he doesn't play 100% on defense all the time.

Chris Paul, New Orleans 1 (1st) 4 (2nd) 7 (3rd) 12 Total Votes

Unbelievable.. apparently averaging a lot of steals means you can play defense... I guess Allen Iverson anchors that strong Denver perimeter defense...

These voters don't know anything about basketball or never watch the games.

TWELVE of these idiotic voters think Chris Paul is a TOP 3 defender in this league. Absolutely hilarious.

By the way, I think CP3 is the best point in basketball, but he certainly isn't an elite defender (although he is better than Nash..)

CP3's defense is not bad at all, in my opinion. Just not anywhere near DPOY level. I would say he's quite a bit above average, taking into account how hard he works on the offensive end.

I think his defense gets a bad rap, unjustifiably. Just because he's such a tremendous offensive player, people automatically assume he can't play D, which in my opinion isn't true at all. But DPOY? Come on, people.
