Idea to prevent flopping/bad calls

Post#1 » by Simplicity0 » Wed Apr 23, 2008 1:05 am

1. Allow a team to pick 3 calls they want reviewed on video during the game that wouldn't normally be reviewed.
2. Give technicals for blatant flopping.

It pisses me off when basketball games just become flopping wars. Theoretically refs would pay more attention to players who regularly flop and just make better calls in general. Not only that, but players would have less of an incentive to flop, because they might end up with a technical.

Unfortunately it's just part of the game, as long as the game is being played physical players will take advantage of it.

Get good at it if they are going to call it, might as well.

Yes for technicals, no for review.

I actually think it has stirred up a ton of controversy this year that now you won't see the calls going towards a flopper. I think its sad especially when a player really does get knocked down and now the ref is just going to think it was a flop. I heard this morning that during the off season the league was going to review several changes that need to be made.

Yep. Since the Jazz are so good at flopping, mind as well embrace it.

Cleaning up flopping can wait until they've cleaned up carrying & travelling. That's the crap that makes me sick.

No for review
No for technicals

However.. i think that the refs need to stop falling for flops and just make it no-calls.. this gives a disadvantage to the flopper's team as they will only have 4 players on defense while the flopper is on the floor

I say we remove drawing of charge. If they see a guy out side the restricted are it should be no call, if its blocking, then call it. It prevents foul trouble for some gay arse flopping job.

I could see why someone might be opposed to the technical, because it's hard to objectively tell whether a player was hit or not, but explain why no one wants the review? It does absolutely no harm. If it was a good call, then the call remains the same, but if not, isn't it better for it to be fixed?

Stop flat out lying, and being hypocrite. Did you watch Game 2?

Jazz players are not even in the league of Rockets players if it comes to flopping.

^AK47 begs to differ
I don't like it because it'd be time consuming and it'd turn out just like football. Like when you challenge play. I hate that already

BUT, if that team doesn't win the challenge they should be required to use an unnecessary timeout, just like in football. So I think teams would be REALLY careful in picking when/if they want to use those challenges, I doubt any team would use more than 2 in a single game.

But you cant really sy if its a flop or not, considering we cant see how hard a player got hit.

Yup. This is the thing. Lots of times, when guys flop, it really is a foul that wouldn't otherwise be called, so while it can get out of hand at times, at other times, I feel it's genuinely helpful.

I know banning Euros was a joke..but seriously, what about: Derek Fisher, Kurt Thomas, Amare Stoudemire, Steve Nash, Paul Pierce, Robert Horry, Allen Iverson, Baron Davis, Dwyane Wade(offensively), Chris Paul(offensively), Raja Bell..just off the top of my head..there are MANY more, and I'm sure there are plenty that I don't watch consistently..

sure, Euros may have brought it over, but the entire NBA does it now..for some teams, flopping is the main form of defense..
