"Marco needs to change his body, needs to get more lean

Post#1 » by Sid the Squid » Wed Apr 23, 2008 5:22 am

"he needs to become a runner. High energy..One of those tireless movers".."He's going to have to figure out how to keep the gaurds in front of him on defense." -Chris Mullin-

So let's tally this up for Belinelli

1. He needs to change his body and become an active player on offense.

2. He also needs to use this summer to learn how to keep his man in front of him on defense.

Basically Beli needs to become the player he's not . :sigh:

Good luck with that.

Mullin and I are on the same page... I dunno if thats good or scary for me.

About midseason I told everyone that Marco needs to be rebuilt, 6 million dollar man style... thanks for listening Mully. Feel free to use other ideas I have too... but unlike TK, a little credit would be nice

Alright. Lets officially put LF on the list of posters that doubt Marco. Welcome aboard. Go ahead and take a seat next to Rowell and Sleepy.

We will continue this discussion next year.

I watched him play for Italy..Every game his line was like 14pts-1reb-0ass ..He averaged less than a rebound and an assist per game this summer...His defense was as lazy as you will ever see in that level of competition...At the same time our ODB was still convinced Marco was going to be an isntant NBA hit...Not only that, but Nellie felt he had a "certain superstar."

Nellie loves his shooters. You say I love my 2 guards, well, Nellie REALLY loves his 2 guards. He's like me, only with a crack addiction.

If lazy D sticks out in Euroball, thats not even a red flag, thats a red blanket... it's a red carpet... whatever it is, how do you not notice this stuff?

510, I could have sworn that you were a big Beli supporter in the preseason. Could this be one of those moments where you are willing to contradict yourself in order to make a jab at Nellie?

If so, you really are "dedicated" to the "cause."

6 month memory... I dont think I was a supporter and I didnt say I liked his game, ever... I dont go spouting off without having seen a player...

After seeing him on an NBA court, I gave my judgement that he needed to be completely rebuilt... Mully sees it the same way...

St.Nick, could this be one of those moments where you completely make something up to try and jab people for no cause?

You dont really have to respond... I dont really care :D

Statements you made right after the draft, before you had ever seen him play.

I dont think Nellie and Mullin have been left in the dust with that trend. Bellinelli is an above average NBA athlete. He's far from the stereotypical Euro slow, great shooting, intelligent player. He's athletic, streak shooting, good ball handling, potentially great defenive player(motivation is a problem) that has mental lapses during the games at times. Fortunately for us, that's right up our alley...

Marco's team this year was an absolute mess, yet he still found a way to shoot 55% from the field. In any case, the year previous was his better year due to a better fit. There was no team identity crisis, there was a solid foundation of winning... this season was a mess. His most recent stats don't go to show the kind of player Bellinelli is. I'm sure nothing I say here will change anyone's opinion of the guy, so I'll just say that Nellie and Mullin were all over the pick and knew about it days in advance, so that should speak a little bit about how good this kid is/could be.

Just out of curiousity, which of that is inaccurate? (outside of adding NBA to "above average athlete" :banghead: )

He is athletic (although, taped games in Euroland made him look faster than he was), he is a streak shooter, and he's not a bad ballhandler (just doesnt like pressure). He played hardnosed defense in Euroball at times, and then faded away at times...

I don't see anywhere in there where I'm a huge Belli supporter... but then again, theres no agenda here.. I don't pick a player and stick with them in hopes of winning a forum feud :D

He looked good like that in clips... extended clips, not just highlight clips...

So I evaluated him based on that...

5 months later, I evaluate him on an NBA level... 3 months after that, Mully confirms it.

You've gone off the deep end man.

I'd like to take a piece of a bite on this Belinelli subject. I watched him play for his national team before he was even drafted by us. I watched the guy and thought, "WOW! this guy can really shoot. I wish we had him on our team." At the same time, we were doing very poorly, and our scrubs were missing shots from left to right. Anyway, I was impressed because he was the only player that stood out of all. I noticed that his teammates let him handle the ball or they would setup a play up for him to shoot. He was active, running all over the place, and making shots, dunks and layups from right to left.

I didn't feel bad when I found out that we traded JR and picked up both Wright and Belinelli. I was excited for summer camp and the upcoming season. Unfortunately, Nelly for some strange reasons, benched both our draft stars. I was extremely disappointed and bumped out.

I believe that we have not given Belinelli an opportunity to display his natural talents. I notice that our organization has the tendency to restrict our players from expressing their true skills. That's why I'm a huge fan of AB15 and ME8; both of them somehow escaped the chains and broke through.

Did you just blank out? Do you not realize the way that you have completely contradicted yourself? You should be embarrassed and contemplative.

My only hope is that after this you will stop being so demeaning and learn a bit of humility. You are not an authority, your opinions are completely fallible, and you have incredible biases that cloud your judgment. In other words....you are just like everyone else.

Time to stop acting like you are something special and that anyone who disagrees with you is some sort of idiot homer. After all, not even a year ago you were on the other side of the fence on many issues that you now hold as unquestioned gospel, alongside all of us idiot homers. We just decided to stay consistent with our beliefs and not immediately jump ship.

He got play for our national team because, to be quite frank, we're not a basketball country... those vids had me fooled too, mainly because Beli looked quicker than the scrubs out there by a large margin, I figured he'd at least fit in, in the NBA...

As far as natural talents, what are they though? Dude can get hot and streak shoot, but what else? He doesn't like to be pressured handling the ball (and good job announcing that, by the way)... he seemed a lot slower than in the YT vids - although that could be a side effect from extremely diminished playing time - and he doesnt have the ball enough, ever, to display any court vision...

He's the project on the team... not a 7'C or our beanpole PF, our project is our shooting guard who really can't shoot all that well consistently.

Do I really have to spell this out for you?

After the draft you judged him, in all your wisdom, to be a great defensive player. You even praised Nellie and Mullin for doing theyre homework before drafting him. Yet now you criticize "drunk" Nellie and Mullin for not doing their homework and not noticing that he is a "bad" defender.

Did I really have to write all of that?

Dude, you gotta snap out of it.

C'mon...I loved Mully's game but he was slow footed and guys got past him all the time ! Thank God he had super quick hands and like our urrent team played defense and got TOs with his hands. Belinelli could be the same way if given the chance. How much could he show during the last 2 minutes of a blowout win or loss ? He impressed me over the summer and I think he could average 12 - 16 points in the NBA IF GIVEN A REAL CHANCE. He could be our consistent offensive spark off the bench if had had confidence instilled in him and didn't think "Will I get 2 minutes of playing time tonight ?" everynight. I think we're/Nellie is wasting his talent.

I think that
Belinelli
Wright
Perovic
Goose and
Bullet

all need to get stronger, when playing a team like Utah, it's like Men playing Boys, we get pushed right off the block even if we have position, can we get a carl landry or paul milsap in the draft this year? We need some real talent in the low post, so Carlos Boozer would be much better actually...

Marco should have played basketball this season. He either should have been sent down to the NBDL to work on becoming Mullin or had been allocated a few minutes a game.

Supposedly making the playoffs was the only reason the youngsters didn't play. Guess what...we still didn't make the playoffs and the kids are now a year behind.

Carl Landry and Paul Milsap are STUDS ! If we had either one it would change the dynamic of our team and make us tougher. Listen...Kevin Martin In Denver is no offensive juggernaut BUT he makes them tough and doesn't mind mixin it up with the big boys and...ever so often (like against us) he'll throw in 20 to 30 points.
