Was there any doubt? I mean seriously. He doesn't deserve MVP (Pierce is the MVP of the C's, but neither deserve it cuz they have each other), but if KG didn't win Defensive Player of the Year the award would of been a joke. Kind of like CC Sebathia winning CY Young last year, after having his ass kicked twice by Beckett in the Playoffs.
Paul Pierce said it best about Caron Butler and the AS 2007 Game:

"Caron Butler should send me flowers for being injured so he could make the All-Star game, because if I was healthy, he wouldn’t be in there.”

Very deserving. Take that, Shaq. And you know what, I'd be willing to bet that even though he'll say this award doesn't mean anything in comparison to wanting the team to win a ring (and he'd be right to say that), he'll cherish this award more than the MVP he got a few years ago. He bleeds defensive intensity.

By the way, there is another Celtic that may have been deserving of the award in the past that many may be forgetting: Kevin McHale.

Usually the DPOY goes to the player who leads the league in either defensive rebounds, steals or blocks. I don't recall anyone winning the award who isn't at least in the top 10 in those statistical categories.

This is a first if I'm not mistaken.

congrats KG. seeing him winning that makes me a bit sad that he ain't no wolf anymore though we have big al now

oh and his top10 defensive plays was quite impressive but the #1 wasn't so good for me and the wolves ;)

Artest?

I think Artest finished 3rd in steals per game the year he won the award.

ya..im sorta trolling because dpoy is one of my favourite awards...but u really think battier isnt a great defender? or are u just so caught up in kg that u cant imagine someone being better at anything?

i really dont understand what ur getting at.

Battier *is* a great defender, but as someone else said already on this thread, he isn't a game-changer (or team-changer, for that matter) the way KG was and is.
It's still 17 to 11!!!!
