Would Harris and Diop make a difference in the series?
I'm sure most of you have been thinking about this too, but do you think we would have been better off with Diop and Harris in this series against the Hornets? Devin Harris probably would do a better job at staying in front of Paul on the defensive end and tends to drive to the basket for layups more often. Jason Kidd is one of my favorite players, but I just get frustrated with his lack of shooting ability (though Harris isn't much better) and his tendency to over pass instead of post up Paul. I'm not sure how much of an impact Diop would have on the series, but he would at least block a shot or two, grab some rebounds and foul players attacking the basket. At least Brandon Bass has been getting great minutes since Diop left especially when he plays well like in Game 2. Anyway what do you guys think?

When Damp is off the floor, I would love to have see a couble of Diop swats on West and Chandler. Or at least some fouls. Something to set a little tone. Diop would be able to run better and defend better with these younger big men.
Harris would get Paul into quick foul trouble, both by staying in front of Paul for the charge and by slashing himself when Paul would try to play defense. Harris would also cause Paul to have to pass a few back out that he would have like to finishe off. Despite DDansby's stats he will throw up, if you watch the damn game, you would see that Paul killed us with Harris on the bench and/or Harris was on the switch, but was contained when Harris was covering him.
The stats they put up on the screen said Paul against the Mavs with Harris is 49% 20 PPG and 8 ast. Mavs without Harris is 59%, 24 pts and 11+ asts. Not a stopper, but at least a slow down. This same kind of issue happend with Ellis; a player we had little to no problem with before is now single handedly murdering us.

It would be the same.
People would write, Kidd would stop Paul, why didnt you make that trade.
Devin was a good defender but Paul is just too good now. They would find ways to make Devin switch.
And Devin on offense, yeah was nice to see him butchering the layup when someone gave him pressure, Chandler would be that player and he would also block some layups. I rather see Kidd making his wide open threes, Devin rarely made them. You think Devin would get 20+ points vs the Hornets,

Guess im the only one who was getting tired of Devins constant flopping antics, yeah thats gone either.
Would be nice to have Diop here, but its surprising that Magloire is that much of a scrub. They obviously counted on him.

Nope.
And JES, it's not about stats. It's about HOW Paul is killing us, and it's exactly the same way that every other wing player has killed us over the years: the pick and roll. Harris wasn't exactly good at fighting through that, and our bigs are still not very good at helping on the switch.
We're still down 0-2 in this series with Harris and Diop, IMO.

Chris Paul would continue to school Devin as well. I don't see how anyone could possibly feel this team would do better at this point with them. The finger needs to be pointed at our bench and Josh Howard who clearly is fighting problems.
We need more size on this team and someone quality to backup Dampier. At this point I'm missing Diop, but the amount of mistakes he makes hurts us just as much, so the positives don't exactly out weigh the negatives.

I went back and watched the first half from last night, because I think that's when we lost that game. Sure enough, the Hornets got wide open shot and wide open shot following a pick set for Paul or that stupid double-team we threw at him.
Once you get past our perimeter defense, which only takes a simple pick, the defense becomes incredible porous.

We need a long, athletic C who's tough defensively, a good rebounder, and isn't a complete liability offensively. The guy we need? We're playing against him this series.

Would Nash help? Would Kobe have made a difference if he was a Maverick?
We have Jason Kidd. Not Devin Harris.
Time to move on.
The debate is not useless because it shows clearly how bad the decision to acquire Kidd was. Those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it. I, for one, would not like to see what I perceive to be the worst trade in Mavericks history repeated again next year, with another debacle, and therefore, the debate is fruitful. Hopefully Cuban will learn that trading 4 of your best trading chips for an "all-star" or "hall-of-famer" doesn't mean "championship".

Your right. The problem is it's not like we can just acquire someone like Tyson at the snap of a finger. Jeff Bower did an outstanding job building the Hornets and I said that even when they added Morris Peterson.
Now, there are some options this offseason, but will once again need to choose age over youth, and it starts with Marion or Brand. It depends if our management wants to move Josh Howard for someone who can really make an impact and provide us with the production that we need.
