I see where you're coming from, but Miami is potentially giving up the two best players in that deal. I know he prefers vets but taking that trade in return for a possible superstar bigger than any of those players involved doesn't seem like a good trade for me.
I'd prefer Rose or Beasley over Brand or Maggette. If this was a weak draft like in 2000 or 2001 where the quality just wasn't there then I'd definitely rethink the trade above, but when Rose and Beasley are there you have to take one of the two.

Just like the Spurs afford Duncan/Parker/Ginobli .... the Celtics afford KG/Pierce/Allen .... the Lakers afford Kobe/Gasol/Odom .... the Pistons afford Billups/Hamilton/Prince/Wallace ... and so forth.
2008-09 Salaries (Brand & Maggette S&T)
============================
Wade ............... $14 million
Brand ............... $16 million
Maggette ........... $10 million
Blount ............... $7 million
Haslem Trade ..... $6 million
MLE signing ........ $5 million
Banks ................ $4 million
Wright ............... $2.5 million
Cook ................. $1 million
A Johnson .......... $0.6 million
That's $66 million right there -- including spending most of the MLE -- with the luxury tax probably at $70 million. The few remainign spots could be cheap additions like a shooter for the LLE, Zo for the minimum, exercise cheap otpions of Joel Anthony and/or Lasme. And that's a full roster just under the tax threshold.
You've gotta keep in mind, just Marion and the #1 pick next year will cost us $21 million in salary. Brand and Maggette figure to add up to $25mill-$27 mill. Not that huge of a difference considering the big contracts we'll be dropping off the cap in JWill and Ricky, and that many would pick us to come out of the East with Wade-Maggette-Brand.

BTW, I'm not saying "this is what we should do." I just think it's the type of deal Riley is looking to make.
I'd have to personally work out (and measure) Beasley and Rose before I conclude they're better than Brand.

I still support the Marion to Portland for Raef, Frye, and their lottery pick. I think this makes the most of our current position. This is a strong draft with good players being available at the 13th pick and even later.
Raef's expiring would also allow us to be a player in FA in a year.
Add an efficient backup in Frye and you've made out pretty well for an overpaid Shaq.

That trade I think would be bad. We will suddenly have a glaring hole at PG, SF, and C. SF's aren't a dime a dozen. Especially solid defending SF's. I dunno if you remember, but the first year we acquired Shaq, we had Rasual Butler starting at SF because we were so desperate and ended up having to make EJ be an undersized 3.
Josh Howard right now we can acquired for pennies on the dollar. Just look at how Mavs fans are bashing him, the guy is about to get run out of town. We could acquire Howard for Marion easily.
Plus, Dallas fans are pissed off as hell at Dampier and really want a center and are not very happy with Kidd...
Kidd and Howard for Marion, Blount, and Banks?
Riley could pull it off! Especially with Cuban so desperate.

wade to chicago
would you heat fans trade wade to chicago knowing he might go one day
eventually there...i would trade him right now...it just seems
he has reached his peak...i know he is injured...but still
i love wade but i love my team more this is a cold business.
wade for gordon, deng, noah and a unprotected 1st pick.
this would make are team more versatile
and we should draft oj mayo to replace wade as the teams scorer
pg.mayo,banks
sg.gordon,cook
sf.deng,wright
pf.marion,haslem...brand?
c.noah,mourning
we could also trade marion, haslem for brand.
that is a potentially great team anyone beg to differ.
chicago would be good as well.
pg.hinrich
sg.wade
sf.nocionni
pf.gooden
c.blount we will throw him in as a filler lol...

what if Dallas decides to dump Dirk after they flame out of the playoffs again..think Riley would pursue him with a package of Marion and the pick?
Marion,Blount,Banks and our 08 Lotto Pick for Dirk and Jet Terry would work if my math serves me right, would either team consider this?
not sure i like Dirk in Miami but he just seems like a possiblity to be available if Dallas continues to get dominated by New Orleans.
Dirk
Haslem
MLE Signing
Wade
Terry

Please change your username and find a new board, you're making everybody dumber. Why would we trade our franchise player whom we are trying to build around? Trade one of the best building blocks in the league for Chicago's junk? He peaked? Get real man. This is a joke.

I wouldn't want Kidd. But I could see a Josh Howard, Erick Dampier.
Shawn Marion and Blount trade.
I still prefer Marion over Howard, but I like Eric over Blount.
But the youth arguement for Howard could be made.
Then with Rose as our pick, and add another SG, SF shooter.
Rose, Wade, Howard, Haslem, Eric Dampier
Banks, James Jones, Dorell, Joel Anthony, and Jeff Foster/or Fabricio Oberto.
Our defense improves.
I think our shooting improves with a James Jones, I would even think about trading someone else, later in the year to tweak the team to the fullest as we see the extra punch in need, and what other team wants to make a trade, or what veteran wants to join Rose and Wade combo to play along with.

Having as our backcourt Ben Gordon and Mayo, two guys are SG's,
This trade is beyond horrible in so many aspects.

both gordon and mayo are not true pg but both can handle the ball,
well enough to get the job done.
and noah in the weak east could hold his own at center
he is 6-11 good enough
well anyways its just an idea...
i am just frustraded with wade to many turnovers,
needs to become better at ft,midrange,3point,on ball defense.
its the same thing everyone says every year.
but maybe he will never get good at those things.
let's hope he does he is a great player just not the best...

I'm not hurt by your comments, where in my post did you see that? The problem is what you're saying is absolutely, 100%, categorically insane. There's not a GM in the league that would trade Wade for anything but a superstar (Deng doesn't count). I'm not going to further analyze your posts because it would hurt my head. Continue with your fun, its entertaining.

I can't see Cuban trading Dirk, they are really really close -- I think he'd fire the coaches and trade all 14 other players on the roster first.
I can't see Pat Riley (a coach who loves and admits about his preference for a low post player) trading for the soft Dirk and taking the contract of Terry. Dirk is the MVP last season but between him and Brand, Riley will opt for Brand.cant see Cuban trading Dirk,The guy is a Star. Cuban is much Smarter then most give him credit for. But if by some crazy way it happend i would say we would be back.
