I'd actually say Pierce, at the moment. 'Melo has developed into a comparable rebounder and passer and he's obviously a superior scorer but Pierce isn't a shabby scorer himself and he's a better defender. A MUCH better defender.
'Melo has the potential to leave Paul choking on his dust but he isn't better just yet.

definitely Paul..
his D has improved this year..nobody is ever going to doubt the potential of star swingmen to play D, but Pierce is actually doing it this year..better playmaker IMO I also like his style of play more..
Pierce is a pretty good scorer too, in case anybody forgot..he was the #1 scoring option for the #1 team in the NBA this season..just in case anybody has been living under a rock..

Carmelo is a vastly superior scorer in terms of both volume and efficiency. He is also a better rebounder.
Pierce is a better defender and a better passer.
I take Melo because from watching both of them play I find that Melo's passing is underrated and really not significantly different than Pierce's. I also question how much the perception of PP playing top tier defence this year is a reflection of him playing side by side KG. He is, however, a better defender than Melo, who can be pretty horrible at times.
For the record, I am a nuggets fan.

I think I'd still have to go with Melo, as a #1 option. Pierce's defense is better, and I'm really scared that Karl has spoiled Melo to the point where he will never be a good defender, but Melo doesn't crumble under pressure.

Pierce by a hair for the above reasons.

I would take Pierce without hesitation. Anthony is overrated. He plays with a future HOF, a DPOY, a former All-Star and he still fails to advance past the first round year in and out. Not to mention he still has character issues with the DUI in recent memory with about a week before playoff basketball. He is still the same immature player that he once was and needs to grow up. I remember when they were comparing him to the likes of Bron and Wade but that was before the fight at MSG and it went all downhill from there ever since.

Pierce by a hair.
Melo is more Athletic, better scorer off the box, and hits more clutch shots. Pierce is, in my opinion, a better all-around scorer, rebounder, shooter, and ball-handler.
That's where it's a draw.
Where Pierce gets the edge over Melo is in their style of play. Melo is a better system player than Pierce. Pierce is a better 1-on-1 player than Melo. Offensively Pierce has more aspects to his game then Melo, and has shown he can play within a winning system.
Melo has the face up jumper, can beat you on the box, has first step to get by you, and is a great finisher. From what I've seen of Melo his buckets consist mainly of fast break dunks, points off the box, and face up jumpers.
Pierce has the Face up jumper, can beat you on the box, has the first step, can take you off the dribble, 3point range, Fade-away jumper, and can hit the off balance shots at a good clip.
Pierce's ability allow him to take a quarter in more different ways. Melo allows him to get quality shots, but harder to take over games.

Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
