I'd probably take Roy for the future but with his potential foot problems it's a tough decision. JJ isn't THAT much older at 26.
Those "potential foot problems" were early last year and haven't been a real problem since (he sat out some preseason games, but that was more of a "better safe than play him in a meaningless game" thing. I don't think anyone is worried about him being too fragile after watching his recovery from his hip flexor injury after everyone expected him to miss the season after that thing (you can see it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LD6mAorP ... re=related. not a pretty sight...).

Really? What makes this an "easily" answered question? Let's compare Per36 stats:
Johnson: 19.2 points 4.0 rebounds 5.1 assists .9 steals 2.4 turnovers .432 FG% .381 3P%
Roy: 18.3 points 4.5 rebounds 5.5 assists 1.0 steals 1.8 turnovers .454 FG% .340 3P%
Iggy: 18.1 points 5.0 rebounds 4.3 assists 1.9 steals 2.4 turnovers .456 FG% .329 3P%
So statistically, Johnson is a little better (but less efficient) scorer than either Roy or Iggy, primarily due to his better three point percentage. He is, however, the worst rebounder, the worst at steals, and tied with Iggy for the most turnover-prone. On top of this, Atlanta did it on the worst of the three teams in the weakest division of the three, so either he is a worse leader than the other two or he's not good enough to be able to take more stats from lesser teammates. All three players were the clear leaders of their team. In either case, you end up with Johnson certainly not looking the best either statistically or as a team player. This doesn't mean he isn't the best, this just means saying "joe johnson easily" makes you someone living in a different reality than what the stats and the records would suggest.
Personally, I'm going to go with Roy as a homer vote, but I would probably take Iggy over Johnson for his all-around game even if I sacrifice efficiency from the three point line.

Just to throw this out there, because we always get the "Iggy plays better D than Roy" when these to are compared. This was crunch time against Joe Johnson this year

That was the lowest stretch of Joe's seasn with his injuries and struggles. You could tell he wasn't right, he was shooting air balls and couldn't keep up with anyone on defense.

Last year was his second best year statistically, but other than shooting percentage it really wasn't any worse than he was in his best statistical year, 2006-07. He shot worse, .432 compared to .471, but his contribution to team scoring was virtually identical (he scored 2.6 more points, but contributed 1.3 less assists) so even though he had a worse shooting year he still contributed essentially the same amount of offense in both seasons, and those seasons were clearly better statistically than any he had done before. So if this was a bad year, it wasn't all that bad compared to his best year. This also means that it doesn't matter all that much which year you want to pick from, he still hasn't separated himself to this point.

He was much better last year. He was a lot more steady and reliable. He also faces the toughest defense of the three. Watch the Celtics series if you haven't seen him this year, he has two guys on him at all times, sometimes three.
The last 20 games or so of this season really helped his overall stats out. He was simply dominant down the stretch and looked like the Joe of last year only dishing out 6+ assists a game.

The best argument for Johnson is how bad the Hawks are when he's not on the floor. His individual stats are a little worse. I can't really speak to injuries or any improvement in his play during the season, but from the stats and what I've seen this year, he's in third place right now.
I think all three are about equal defensively right now. Roy and Iguodala are really close, and I don't have a strong opinion. One thing I like about Roy is how well he takes care of the ball.

High 5 wrote:Roy has rarely seen anything close to what Joe saw before the Bibby trade (and no surprise he exploded after it). I'm not saying Roy doesn't see the occasional double team, but with how unreliable our team was this year Joe really got it bad.
You really don't watch Roy much do you?
Aldridge didn't play that great for about half of the season, meaning teams were leaving him open for 18 foot jumpshots (which he often bricked) in order to double or triple team Roy.
Thank you for all the memories BRoy. You were a class act and brought hope to an entire region for 5 years. You will be missed.

I love Brandon Roy but come on. Roy isn't even a star yet. The casual basketball probably hasn't even heard of him yet and that is what defines a superstar IMHO.SendEm wrote:Brandon Roy because he is a superstar RIGHT NOW and moving forward.
