Paul Pierce should be doing those "Fall 7 times, get up 8" commercials, not DWade.

That commercial makes no sense. Why do you have to get up an extra time, did the coach knock him to the floor start the game or something?

It literally makes no sense, it shoudl be fall 7 times get up 7 times.

Also, when Stoudemire fouled Pierce's teeth out, there wasn't even a personal foul called, let alone a flagrant. The refs literally let him sit there and bleed face-down as if nothing happened.

I remember hearing about Pierce from Wyc on NBA.TV or something. I think it was before last year when there were all the talk about Pierce being traded, etc. and I think Peter Vecsey asked if Pierce was being shopped or going to be traded.

Then Wyc said, he was at a game where PP took a hard foul and chipped or lost a tooth. But he came back in the game after a brief break and finished the game. At that time, Wyc said he knew he wanted to build around Paul because of his toughness and dedication. Wyc went on to say that he's going to make sure Pierce retires as a Celtic and retire his number.

I mean it's nothing new, it's how it pretty much always was as long as I can remember, from Kareem and MJ to Kobe and AI.
It's not a perfect system by any means, but it works.
And yes, you give a flagrant 2, when a player of LeBron's caliber is tossed on a ground like that, cause if it's a career ending injury, we can lose an once-in-a-lifetime player. As a basketball fan I would be pissed if LeBron's career is cut short, cause somebody like Haywood can hold his temper. It will be very bad for the game, period.
Imagine if it was KG on a LeBron place, how would you react?

In 2004, in a game against the Blazers, Pierce hit the game winner. This in itself wasn't so amazing as he had done it many times before. But, the night before he had been fouled hard by Amare Stoudamire and lost several teeth. He spent 7 hours in the dentist's chair having them repaired and still started the game against the Blazers that night, hitting the game winner. Now, that is tough. But then again, after you have been stabbed and almost killed, losing a few teeth maybe isn't that big a deal. In September of 2000, just minutes after entering a Boston dance club in the early morning hours, he was jumped from behind by three men. He was sucker-punched, a bottle was broken over his right eye, a knife was plunged through the back of his leather jacket six inches deep into his body, barely missing vital organs, and he received 10 other stab wounds and required lung surgery. Three weeks later he was back at practice for the Celtics and played the entire 2000-2001 season, averaging 25.3 points. There is no doubt that Pierce is a warrior and although KG has been acknowledged as the leader on this team, Pierce is still the Captain and the Truth.

So it's OK if that foul is on, say, a Jason Terry, who is a very good but not spectacular player...if it ends his career, no biggy, just give Haywood a flagrant 1, but OH MY GOD IF IT ENDS LEBRONS CAREER HAYWOOD SHOULD BE TOSSED AND SUSPENDED AND PUT IN JAIL!!! That's your logic, which shows the "star system" taken to its utter extreme.

And for the record, the "star system" didn't *really* start to affect games and outcomes on a regular basis until Jordan.

He missed nearly half with a broken foot. But even then, the team had to KEEP HIM OUT because 1) he wanted to come back sooner to keep his team from losing more and 2) because the season was lost after Pierce went down, everyone except for Pierce wanted to tank to get a shot at Oden or Durant.
