Carl Landry's contract status???

Post#1 » by bstein14 » Fri Apr 25, 2008 9:11 pm

Just wondering what his contract status is.

It appears he is a restricted FA this summer.

What type of deal do you see him getting?

If someone offers him the full MLE for 3 or 4 years do you see the Rockets matching?

The full MLE we might have to think about, but I'd think we'd even go that far to match. He truly is our x-factor, when he plays well, there's no coincidence our sytle of play is much higher. Then add in he's a rookie with a BUT load of potential, I say we try to keep him at all costs.

But if(we should)/when we re-sign him, would it come out of OUR MLE money?

The only iffy thing about Landry to me is his knee issues. It's what dropped his stock in the draft and what will likely drop his stock on the FA market.

As a Pistons fan I have no interest in signing him as we've got young PFs in Amir Johnson and Jason Maxiell.

I was just curious as to what your thoughts were on the Rockets matching an MLE offer to him, which it seems he may have played himself into.

Is a team option the same as UFA?

No. The team option means the team of the player can decide whether or not to excersise that player's option.

Nobody will offer Landry the full MLE , especially since he is resricted and it will scare teams off.

I hope we can sign for like 18 million for 5 years , 14 million for 4 years , something like that.

Scola is making about 3 million a year and he is starting for us , I can't see Landry earning much more than Scola if at all.

He will prob get the LLE for 2 yrs, then Rockets will have Bird rights and he'll get his if he's worth it.
No sane GM is going to offer the MLE to a rookie who's had 2 knee injuries in 3 yrs,who has not shown he can defend the better PFs,and has shown very little offense other than finishing around the basket.(Which doesn't mean there aren't insane GMs. Unfortunately for Landry,Zeke no longer calls the shots in NY.)
This yr there are alot of decent Free Agents and not too many teams that aren't getting near the Lux tax.

We should try to get Diop and re-sign Landry this offseason. With that said, I don't see us making as many moves this offseason as last season, unless we strike it rich in the draft and trade that potential/future + bjax for a good PG. I don't see Morey gambling much with the good core we have this year.

I'm not sure if Houston would match an offer for him if it was for the full MLE for 3 or more years because of his knee, but it's for that reason I'm fairly sure he won't get an offer like that.
