Bobcats fire coach Vincent after one season

Associated Press
Updated: April 26, 2008, 9:38 AM ET

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Charlotte Bobcats have fired coach Sam Vincent after one season.

The team announced the move Saturday. The fourth-year franchise had hoped to make the playoffs for the first time this season. But the Bobcats went 32-50, and that put Vincent's job in jeopardy.

Part-owner Michael Jordan had taken a gamble in hiring Vincent. Vincent had never been an NBA head coach and had spent just one year in the league as an assistant.

Another MJ's failure. :nonono:

He should have at least gave Vincent a chance. He only gave him a season to turnaround a team hasn't ever made the playoffs. Some teams put too much blame on the coach. Maybe if they would have drafted better they would have made it in.

I agree, I feel somtimes teams have an itchy trigger finger on coaches.

There's rumours that Larry Brown is interested in Bobcats.

That would be a GREAT job for him. If they could re-sign Okafur, he and Wallace are Brown type of hard nosed defensive players.

Its a players league. You give a coach something to work with and they will win. Doc Rivers had "Fire Doc" chants last season and now he's a possible Coach of the year winner.

It probably wasn't a great idea to hire someone with only one year of assistatnt coaching experience, but hey he was really good firends with MJ so thats got to count for something right.

The players were asked if Vincent should be back next season. They voted unanimously 14-0 a resounding NO. Vincent threw his players under the bus back in December. Felton said he and Vincent weren't on speaking terms the last couple months of the season.

There is no way Vincent would be back.

So everytime the players don't like someone they can cry and get him fired. That doesn't sound right.

^That's just not it i'm pretty sure there's a whole lot more, i've heard some bad things about him; besides it wasn't a good move in the first place, they needed an experienced coach who the players would respect and play hard for, vincent, clearly wasn't.

if thibodeau leaves us and goes anywhere else to coach, i hope he gets the bobcats. i think it's the best situation for him to come in and develop a defensive mindset in a young and promising team, and get good credit for it as a coach. that team is very long and athletic and they all have the speed and potential to be great team defenders.

and my thinking is thibodeau either stays with us...or he leaves and larry brown signs on as our defensive cordinator next year. remember how he was real close to it last off season before we got thibodeau? that'd be pretty cool...

Agreed.

However this is only so Larry Brown can come coach, since he and MJ have the UNC connection.
It's still 17 to 11!!!!
