PHILADELPHIA -- If coaches and team officials truly want to change the current NBA playoff format, they are going to get their opportunity this summer.
"Though I think it is unlikely anything will happen, we will explore it fully," commissioner David Stern said in an informal press briefing before the game Friday.
Several different proposals have been discussed the last couple of years. One is to re-seed teams in each conference after each round. Another is for the playoffs to include the 16 top teams in the league, regardless of conference affiliation and simply seed them one through 16.

Because there teams are in,but once there team dont make it and have a good record expect them to change their minds.

I support a change in the playoff format. But not just simply top 16 into the playoff. To make the conferences and divisions still meaningful, I suggest the teams that win their respective conferences take the top 2 seeds. Other division winners are guaranteed to be in the playoff and within the top 8 seeds. The remaining 10 playoff spots are then taken by the remaining best 10 teams regardless of conferences or divisions. Under this format, the playoff picture will be like the followings.
No 1: Bos vs Tor
No 2: LAL vs Por
No 3: Det vs Was
No 4: NO vs Cle
No 5: SA vs GS
No 6: Hou vs Dal
No 7: Uta vs Den
No 8: Orl vs Pho
Most of the series remain as interesting as those under the current format. And it will probably eliminate the chance for teams winning less than 40 games to get into the playoff.

Playoff format is fine as is... reseeding would be nice as an extra reward for teams that had a great regular season.
They really shouldn't try to overhaul the whole playoff format because of this year. This was such an abnormal occurance... check the history of the playoffs, from time to time, a team with a worse record makes the playoffs over a team with a slightly better record but its usually not as great of a difference as this year.
