The Spurs would absolutely destroy the Mavs. Tony would carve up the Mavs just as easily as he's carving up the Suns. The Hornets on the other hand match up well with the Spurs. CP would play Tony very well, though Manu could have a field day. But I think a Spurs Hornets series would be much more competitive, though it would be fun to smash Dallas.

San Antonio wish that they can "smash" Dallas. Where is all this cockyness coming from? We beat you last time we met in the playoffs, so we're better in a heads-up match up until you guys beat us

Well that happens when you win championships. The Mavs have not proven to anyone of us that when they won, it was nothing more than a fluke. It isn't like we are scared of Jason Kidd...

Harris was crucial in that series for Dallas. He penetrated and caused many problems. He was able to stay in front of Parker and force him to take contested jumpers. Anyways, that series was one of the best series in a long time and we were essentially one Manu foul away from erasing a 3-1 deficit. Dallas fans have no business of thinking that they can take the Spurs.

The flip of the coin going in your favor that year allows you to ignore choke job after choke job, a poor trade, no heart, etc etc etc?

Please. You're lucky the much superior team you're playing this year in the first round is young enough that they can get intimidated by playing on the round. Otherwise you'd get swept. As it is, you'll still lose in 5 or 6, and the Mavs will be nothing more than a team that loses in the first road years in a row. You're not worthy of fear or respect or anything. The Mavs just played the role of the team that gets a flukey win over the Spurs in the playoffs to keep them from repeating, and the choke job in the finals is all you're left with as the penacle of the team's success.

But enough of that. As these two teams currently match up, the Mavs would at best stretch the series to 5 games, while I'd expect a Hornets Spurs series to go 6. But just to play along, I certainly wouldn't mind the Spurs presiding over the potential blow up of the Mavs after presiding over the potential blow of up the Suns. There would be a major level of poetic justice if that situation were to occur. Of course, there's no way the Mavs beat the Hornets, so all this is moot.

Living in the past, man! That one stroke of luck, the stupid Manu foul, we lost it more than you won that series. And that was your championship there. It's been all down hill since then: blowing the REAL title shot that year, humiliated last year, getting bounced by the young Hornies now. And of course, the Kidd trade.

I think both Hornets and Mavs can put up a good fight. I wonder why all Spurs fans act like they are unbeatable. The only reason why the PHX - Spurs series is decided is that lucky 3pt Duncan hit to force overtime. Overwise this series would be (far from) over.

Obviously i prefer Dallas, but wish Hornets good luck if they beat us.

We are not unbeatable... we have our flaws but our issue is that a Mavs fan thinks or silly believes we need to prove something compared to his team due to some series 2 years ago with a totally different team who we match up significantly better against.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/box ... 30DAL.html
http://www.basketball-reference.com/box ... 80SAS.html

Here, the games with Kidd, one with Dirk (in a slump at the time), the other Dirk getting injured. In both we didnt get murdered from Parker, but ultimately lost the games.
Kidd is playing better now, Dirk is playing in MVP-mode and Josh is playing like ****

As long as Dirk is playing like he does now we have have "business of thinking that we can take the Spurs", because i dont see one on your roster that can stop him (is there even one, Action Jackson doesnt count ). The same is true for Duncan.

So that quote in particular made me post in this thread.

Myself I think Dallas can win 2 or 3 against San Antonio but not beat them. I just don't see the Hornets lasting long against the Spurs, sure Hornets killed them regular season but so did the Suns, and btw how is that fairing for the Sunsetters in Phoneix in the post-season?

I think the Spurs have the edge over either of them

Being better than Dallas on both ends of the court. And, this isn't 2006. With Harris and Diop gone, they don't match up as well with the Spurs, and those two guys were key in Dallas' games against the Spurs and their success in general. I thought the Spurs would of beaten Dallas if they met in the playoffs last year, being a better team overall than the 2006 team. Suttle, but effective changes to the team being there. Josh Howard has been inconsistent in his form since Kidd has been there. From what I've gathered, he's not the same player.

With the Hornets, the Spurs defense can slow down Paul, and with no one else to really create and run their offense, the Hornets become a limited offensive team. I know West can create offense, but I'm doubting that's enough. I also think the Hornets mental emotional control is a question, weakness. After Pargo and Bonzi, their bench gets iffy. No one really to guard Ginobili, don't know about Mo Pete. Again, I think the Spurs would be too much on both ends.

Spurs beat the Hornets handly twice, and so did the Hornets to them twice, as mentioned.

I think it will be Dallas. Hornets is overconfident, especially Chris Paul. I'd like to see a rematch anyway.

Ummm yeah and when did I say that we would expect to win against the Spurs? We would definitely be the underdogs but we would put up a helluva good fight and definitely have a chance of winning.

What is a LOT more unlikely is the Spurs sweeping us like the idiot who I posted right after said

For such a great team, why are there so many insecure Spurs fans? No one's said anything about Dallas manhandling the Spurs; more like someone said Dallas has a better shot at the Spurs. One post and a flurry Spurs fans smell blood.

Yeah seriously. You guys are the favourites in ANY series. Doesn't give you the right to bash other teams just because they didn't get lucky in the lottery. To say that San Antonio would "absolutely destroy" Dallas is just ludicrous.
