Violet Palmer has it in for the C's
As soon as I saw she was officiating i said the C's would lose. I seriously think she has a unconscious vendetta somewhere in her mind because of that crap that Maxwell said!

I really don't get it. I'm completely open-minded about the gender of a referee, but I'm definitely noticing a trend. It does seem like every time she's a ref in a C's game, there's at least one call that I just shake my head at. Hasn't she been a ref in at least a couple of our losses this year too?

Look I'm not going to argue she's a bad ref, but let's be real for a moment. She's the only female ref in the NBA. It's so much easier to notice when she makes a bad call - "which ref made that call? Oh, the woman did."
I'm not saying she's the greatest ref or even a good ref. I'm not defending the calls she's blown. I'm just saying she's got a target on her back, and there are plenty of other terrible officials who don't get half the crap she does because no one can remember who they are. But every one remembers when Palmer makes the call because you can't confuse her with anyone else.

Agreed.
She isn't a great ref (I'd even call her a bad ref), but I highly doubt she has it in for the Cs, and the Hawks won because they outplayed the Celtics.

I just wish these refs would be more consistent with the physicality of the games instead of letting one team (Hawks) play rough and not letting the C's do the same and calling them for ticky tack stuff (like Rondo's charge on Bibby). For example when Smith collided with Pierce in game 2 no tech was called but when Posey made a similar play they called a tech. I know fouls have to be called to keep the game in control but call them both ways.

she gets excited whenever she makes a call that no one is expecting. the problem is - she thinks that makes her a good ref, when actually people are not expecting them for a reason.
celtics lost last night because they didn't play hard.
no excuses - but violet certianly didn't help. in fact, the atlanta favoritism last night was blatent.

Does anyone ever rate the refs by nitpicking film and writing down the total number of times a foul could have been called for each team, and then the number of fouls actually called. That could be their accuracy rating. I guess everyone's accuracy rating could be compared afterwards. The only flaw is, I'm guessing every basketball ref's accuracy is probably below 50% because so many potential fouls occur without calls, so maybe refs almost do pick and choose subconsciously sometimes.

You guys are buggin. There weren't that many calls last night that got me hollerin at the TV, except maybe the shot clock violation they called after Smith swatted Rondo, but nobody had a clue if there was a second left because of the busted shot clocks.
How many calls were really that bad by Violet? I know she's generally pretty bad, but the free throws were just 27 to 25 so you can't really complain about that. Oh and the Ray Allen offensive foul was pretty brutal at first look, but when you looked at it again he definitely jump kicked Josh Smith right in the junk when he was going up for that layup. Whether that should be a foul or not, I don't know, but I could certainly see where a ref who saw it, would call it.

I'm surprised everyone is mad at Violet. If anyone was calling a sketchy game it was Salvatore. Rondo gets called for an offensive foul on a post up, now I've seen everything. But overall definitely didn't feel like the sort of game you can point at the refs for having a huge effect and believe noone was more bummed at the beginning to see that both Salvatore and Palmer were on this crew-I expected much worse.

Yeah Palmer's a bad ref, but I think she's amongst a bunch of terrible refs in the NBA.
I'd just like to note that there are always tons of threads and posts about how terrible the "REFS" were in a certain game, but when she refs a terrible game, she gets singled out cause she's a woman. Think about it; how many threads or posts do you see that say "Bennett Salvatore has it in for the C's."
