Carmelo: "We just quit"/"Can't nobody questio

Post#1 » by JStockLivesOn » Sun Apr 27, 2008 2:26 pm

Let's not turn this into a straight-up Carmelo-bashing thread, because there's plenty of opportunity for that in a lot of places.

But I found this inconsistency in his account of his play bizarre, and perhaps indicative of how all-over-the-place he and his teammates are mentally and emotionally, given how tough this series has been for them.

So, first, he goes on this long rant about his team's and his lack of effort:

"But as a competitor, there

Word homie.

His shot looks pretty good though compared to his grammar.

Oh Carmelo...If you weren't an NBA player, you'd probably that guy who flips my burger or sells me the reefer.

"Can't nobody do that"? Ugh, I know it's slang and everything, but you have to think that if he wanted to, he could say that in proper English.

Something tells me Syracuse had to get tough and put him on academic probation for his sophomore.... oh, right.

How does that even make any sense? It's like he's trying to take responsibility for the loss, but at the same time tries to displace all of the blame.

Give it up Carmelo. You're just a punk bitch who will always be remembered for bitch slapping Mardy Collins and then running away like a little pussy, and then making a "don't snitch" video the next day. Thug life?

How anyone can even like this guy, including Denver fans, I'll never understand.

Carmelo laughing after being down 20 and going for 4-threevebillion epitomizes him as a player and person.

Iverson gave up as well, Melo just had the nerve to say it.

I broached the subject in a very "un-hater" way, so would you care to explain the discrepancy in his remarks instead of incorrectly projecting arrogance onto others?

I'm not sure they're totally reconcilable, but you have to remember that reporters alwys use these snippets without reporting their questions, and that can lead to contextual problems.

First, he said he played like crap, and that he and the team quit. (and how can anyone question the accuracy of that statement?)

Then he said his shot's not falling, and to say it slightly better than he does, it's not a question of effort. Doesn't make much sense unless you consider what the question might have been. But if the question was something like: "Carmelo, how do you explan your offensive performance today, is it a lack of effort?" and his answer is "my shot's not falling, it's not effort," that actually makes some sense. In fact, I sort of agree with it. He was trying on offense. In fact he tried harder to get to the rim rather than settling for jumpers than he does a lot of the time. For whatever totally mystifiying reason, he couldn't hit anything.

So I don't know that they are necessarily totally consistent, but they may not be as inconsistent as they seem.

Reporters do this all the time. They use the quotes they get to fit the theme of the story they decide to write without providing the context of what question the players were answering.

Iverson is the man. I feel sorry for him that he had to land with this scumbag. I wish he went to the T-Wolves with KG. Two MVP caliber players that would lead their team to a ring. Carmelo is just a no defense, no passing chucker who doesn't step up when his team needs him to. He's Zach Randolph without the rebounding but even more chucking.

They showed Melo's interview in full last night. He straight up said "I quit, ya I said it. We all quit" He elaborated on that too. Then I'm sure he realized how horrible he looked so he came out today to try and fix it, but it's too late.
