Mike Tirico

Post#1 » by bill curley II » Sun Apr 27, 2008 7:05 pm

This guy's easily the worst play by play guy on national TV. Even the "extra" guys TNT and ESPN brings in for playoff games (matt dwyer and matt devlin i think) are a 100 times better.

Tirico complains about Deshawn and the whole Soulja Boy thing for about half the game, the other half he complains about how it shouldn't affect the game, but no one else is bringing it up but him. He's clearly pro-Lebron and anti-Deshawn, which I don't really care about but I hate it when national broadcasts are biased like that (e.g. Joe Buck and his Brett Favre di** sucking).

And the end of the 3rd quarter, he complains about adding .3 secs left because he thought the clock should've kept going. It probably should've been like .1 or .2, but the point is, the clock freaking stops on the foul, and doesn't keep going. I seriously think Tirico only got a job because he's a black and ESPN had to comply to affirmative action.

I agree. I can't stand him and he's one of the reasons why NBA on ABC sucks ass.

I agree with everything except this. He's pretty average as a play by play.

He does act like his opinion is important though(and he's clearly biased). They aren't paying him to give his opinion on "side show garbage". He needs to let Hubie do the analysis and just call the game. He reminds me alot of Joe Buck.

I associate his voice with the incompetence of ABC versus TNT.

Ok I went a little overboard on the affirmative action thing. But I absolutely hate his play by play calling style, his voice, and his wanna be PC opinions. I really hope ESPN gets an actual number 1 play by play guy so they can bump Breen down to a number 2 position next year and put Tirico back on the 3am Sportscenter, where he belongs.

I don't think Tirico is going anywhere. As of now, with the MNF gig, they've clearly kind of anointed him as one of their top play-by-play guys.

I really don't mind him. Mind you I tune out most announcers anyways, and I don't have a problem doing so with him. The really bad ones (Portland's crew comes to mind) force me to mute the TV.

Wow, I completely agree with 2poor.

He isn't the best but he's hardly the worst, and who isn't pro LeBron when it comes to the Deshawn/LeBron rivalry. Stevenson is a dumb ass.

Tirico does a great job. Today though he is slurping LeBron a little too much for my tastes.

the ones who have a problem with tirico are life long lebron haters or wizard fans.

hes a good announcer. not great. just good. i think the only reason why people liked NBC was the music. cuz the guys that call the games are still broadcasting today.

I agree that the people who wants NBC back only want it back because of the music.

However, Mike is truly bad.

It's the triple and double headers in the regular season I miss.

I hate people who do both nfl/nba stuff. Tirico was doing the draft yesterday and obviously didnt have time to review whats going on with the series and thats why hes saying the same old same old.

And I was about to make a thread similar to this. He makes assumptions all the time and acts like he knows what's best for every possession, and he's also noticeably biased sometimes. I don't think he's going anywhere though, and that's a shame.

He's not a bad guy, he's just not a good play-by-play guy.

I remember in Shaq's first game with the Suns, he blamed Kobe for hitting Raja Bell in the head before even seeing the replay. The replay showed it was Shaq's elbow that knocked Raja out and it had nothing to do with Kobe at all.

Tirico loves to jump to conclusions.

I am very easy going with stuff, and I hardly ever care about a race comment...but this particular comment is egregious and I would like an apology...

I like when someone makes a shot to win the game, this is an example of Nash making a game winning shot, he says: "Here's Nash, this for the win" *jumpshot attempted by Nash* *jumpshot made* "HE GOT IT TO GO"...
