Josh Howard

Post#1 » by MN Die Hard » Mon Apr 28, 2008 4:04 pm

I'm sure there will be talk of trading Howard all offseason. Just curious how he would be valued here.

He's a bit older than our young core, and he's expensive.

But he's been right around 20/7 the past two years, and might even put up better numbers with a change of scenery.

What's the most you'd offer for him?

Hmmmm, not much only because I'm hesitant to add guys that can't shoot from the outside.

I'd rather go w/ Gomes/Brewer at the SF.

Dallas probably won't trade him anyways, their fans are just piling on because of his mj comments, but Kidd, Dampier, and Stackhouse are playing just as poorly as Howard.

Dallas is going to have to do something. I'd trade Buckner + McCants + Gomes (S&T) for him.

Why not a Walker/Brewer offer for Howard? J Ho is 20 and 7, probably pretty close to the celing we might expect for Brewer right?

Why would Dallas do that?

A trade with Portland makes the most sense to me--

Something like Howard for Pryz/Jack/Webster would probably improve both teams.

Dallas

Kidd/Jack
Terry/Stack
Webster/Dirk
Dirk/Bass
Pryz/Dampier

Portland

Blake/Rodriguez
Roy/Fernandez
Howard/Jones
Aldridge/Outlaw/Frye
Oden/13th pick, i.e. Hibbert/Jordan/McGee

After just admitting his love for the weed I doubt that Portland would want him in the weed capital of the US.

Gomes and McCants would both be very appealing pieces to Dallas I would think. I would probably do this deal, Josh Howard isn't that old, he just turned 28 recently iirc. He has a reasonable contract and we should be contending two-three years from now if McHale plays his cards right. Great stop gap while we wait for Corey Brewer to develop and a good veteran presence.

I don't care about him smoking weed since he keeps it to the offseason and it doesn't affect his game in any way.

I think he'd be a good piece for us, but I'm not sure how much I would deal. I'd look to move at least one bigger contract along with some young player(s). Gomes would have to be done separately in a S&T.

If it was something like Jaric, McCants, and Boston #1 then I'd do it as he'd be a nice fit at SG, who could play SF if necessary.

Of course that is somewhat dependent on who we get in the draft. If we got Lopez then Foye, Howard, Gomes, Jefferson, and Lopez with Brewer as 6th man looks very good. If we got Rose, I'd probably look to trade more for a big than Howard. He is a legitimate scorer who defends very well and is young, so I'd be interested.

Just to let you know Dallas posters extremely overrate Howard. I wouldn't go offering that deal if I were you. I tried the Pryz/Webster/Jack idea and they called it "atrocious." I can understand they migth not like the deal, but hardly atrocious.

It would probably have to be Gomes and McCants, no one wants Jaric.
