Josh Howard+Devin Harris=Stevie Franchise+Cuttino Mobley..

Post#1 » by HarlemHeat37 » Mon Apr 28, 2008 4:54 pm

so just looking over the numbers..Josh Howard's PPG has dropped by 2.3 since his little buddy Devin got traded, and his FG% has dropped by a huge 6.2%(including the playoffs)..

so while the new system and players involved will have an impact, is it really possible for a player to start playing much worse, because he lost a close friend that was also his teammate?..this was the theory with Cat and Francis, but can a player be really affected by this?..

Devin Harris was a much better penetrator than Jason Kidd is now and so Josh Howard had more room to operate. But I like your buddy theory better, let's go with that one.

In terms of sports psychology, a player performs better around people he knows. For example, Sebastian Telfair ends up having big games against the Knicks (who doesn't) because he has a ton of family come out to watch him play.

I dont think it's just Devin though, I bet it's more along the lines of "When JKidd is on the floor the Mavs' offense looks like crap."

Josh Howard is a great player, he will pick up his game soon. Just has to get the feel of Kidd's game then things will flow again

The way Howards style of play went i seriously don't want him anywhere near my team ....

RJ may be overpaid but he's still the better player .

Strictly in terms of basketball Howard + Harris are way better defenders. Thus, even if they lose that chemistry allowing them both to put up the kind of numbers they were together, they'd still have more value than say pure scorers(chuckers) mobley/francis.

And Mobley and Francis didn't become that much worse players. Francis was fine in Orlando. He just sucked when he came to the Knicks. Like every other decent player who comes to the Knicks. They just get worse for some reason I wont get into it. Plus he became injured which further lead to his downfall.

As far as Mobley goes, I think age just caught up with him in L.A. He's still an allright player though, his decline matched his age.

I read something about Miami possibly trading for Josh Howard earlier today, and it seemed like a decent idea since Dwayne Wade & Shawn Marion both like to penetrate very much like Devin Harris did in Dallas. IMO he would flourish down there.
