Charlotte and racist fans

Post#1 » by CarolinaCash » Tue Apr 29, 2008 2:31 am

Check out the sports blogs section on charlotte.com when you get a chance. You can look under the new blog "This isn't going to work". There is always tons of racist remarks on there that is sickening. People from other cities have visited those blogs and posted things like this:

I heard about the firing and wanted to check things out. I have always been a big Jordan fan being from Chicago. I stumbled across the board and was shocked. I didn't know that many of you people down there in the south are still so racist. Not only are you racist, you a pretty ignorant and crude with it. At least you win one award: The most racist city in the NBA! You almost make me feel like apologizing for being white.

Here are some examples:

Also, will Johnson require Larry Brown to visit a tanning parlor?

Hell yeah if Larry gets the job he will have to wear black shoe polish on all parts of his body. I only hire people of my color. I am not racist. I only hire black men. I do hire white women so that proves that I am no racist. I think white women are so hot. I will even go out with a tanned white woman.

I cheated on my black wife with a white tailed woman. I had to pay my ex 1 billion dollars but white ass is worth it.

I AM NO RACIST.

PS I wish I knew something about basketball. I know all of you think that since I am black I should know all about basketball.

Yeah, because the Bobcats haven't deserved any criticism at all. They had one of the most underachieving teams in NBA history this year, have an owner who blames his business failures on Charlotte's (mostly white) business executives, and tries to shove an urban-ified game day experience down a decidedly non-urban city's throat, complete with step team, drum line, non-stop R&B/hip-hop, and fired a team of excellent white basketball men who had built one of the most successful expansion franchises in history who were replaced with a group of people whose resumes' started with "Mike's my Buddy." Who could want any more than that?

It goes on and one in every blog. No wonder the Bobcats and Panthers are the only cities I've been to a pro game in and can't listen to hip hop music. The Bobcats have been forced to playing country/redneck music to please the big money fans. The players of the panthers and bobcats hate it.....the Panthers music is unbearable and the players have said they get more hyped playing on the road because of music. Hip hop music gets everyone a little more into the game. They also made the Bobcats get rid of the DJ.

My question is it because we have so many racist fans here in town that the Bobcats aren't getting supported? I really am wondering now that a black owner has made a lot of people not support this team........this is embarrassing that there still is this much racism alive in the South.

Lol, I read all of that as it progressed earlier today. I wouldn't call those people "fans", just troublemakers.

wow....
Having lived in the North (Philly/NY) and having lived in the South. (Just Charlotte) I always felt that other parts of the country were 1000% more racist than the south....

Its true about the music at the panthers game.... just terrible....

In all seriousness, I'm suprised such people know how to access the internet

I think the Bobcats aren't getting supported by locals because they have made it difficult for the people that they are marketing towards to go to the games.

1) Games start at 7. 2) Good tickets are a bazillion dollars. I dig the drumming and would not call it a "drum line" but the set up of item one and two mean that POTENTIALLY the people that can fulfill the above criteria for 41 games are not only affluential people, but those with time on their hands. That's a pretty rare combination to begin with, but hopes of filling a 19,000 person arena? For serious? For a bad team with no identity?

I am a young, white season ticket holding male from Raleigh. This is my second season buying lower bowl tickets, last season I had 3 and got 4 this year. I started off going to a good number of games, but sold any I could after the first month and a half or so. I was entertained during the games, but going to them was an expense. Tickets, parking, food (either eat uptown or at the arena, either way it's not going to be cheap), drinks.

On top of that, the Bobcat season ticket dudes that call are annoying and crappy. Here is my experience:

-After dealing with Matt last year, I decided I enjoyed the games, but not enough to support the team with season tickets.
-Matt wouldn't take this offer and said he'd include autographed jerseys of any two players we wanted. My GF and I selected Herrmann and Wallace, would settle for Okafor/Richardson/anyone else but Felton and Ammo (already have those, before anyone starts hating).
-Matt always said to tell him the next time we were going to a game and he'd get the jerseys, but whenever we did that he wouldn't come to our seats (Bobcats are allergic to fedex)
-Midseason Matt is replaced by Cedric. We explain our situation to Cedric and he apologized and promises to get us those jerseys, either at the next game or shipping them to us.
-Next game, no jerseys. After the game we get an apology call, promise to do it next time, we say we'd just prefer to have them shipped so we can make sure we get thim.
-As of this typing, still no jerseys.

This is how 2 year lower bowl season ticket holders from Raleigh (6 hour round trip!) get treated. GTFO with that mess about maybe "we have so many racist fans here in town that the Bobcats aren't getting supported?" If the Bobcats expect to treat fans the way they treat them they should not be surprised to see empty seats.

Cash, how many games did you get to this season? I don't remember you posting in too many Hammer threads about your first hand reflections on being at the game, so I'll assume the answer is "not many". My question is it because you were stuck watching the Hornets or is it because of racism?

without question the posts were outlandish so much so I didn't address them. Cash made a suggestion that the reason the team was not supported is because of racism and I think that is absolutely ridiculous.

No that doesn't make him a racist, just someone who thinks the Bobcats are a college team.

Might be best to leave that filth at the papers boards. No need to bring it here.
